Anyone have any recommendations for software that would allow me to beam from my Clie to a windows laptop?

Beam what? You can already hotsync to windows thorough IR. It's a bit slow but better than nothing.

McFile allows for Beaming to and from the Clie to a Laptop. I've been using it over the built-in file manager of ZLauncher. It works great.

You don't need anything special on your laptop. Just activate the IR port and beam away. The files recieved will end up in the \Desktop folder on your laptop.

Setting up the IR (infrared) port on the laptop is done in the BIOS, which you access through "setup" or something similar before the laptop completely boots up (F1 on my Dell Inspiron). It will be assigned to one of the COM ports. Then, your laptop will be able to comunicate with any IR device.

Thanks to all for the replies.
I guess I should have explained myself more thouroughly.
The problem is not the laptop (its all set up for receiving and sending files, its my Clie that doesn't acknowledge the laptop's presence when trying to beam from it, although it can receive files from it), or Hotsyncing (I want to beam non palm files from my memory stick to my laptop, and I don't think HotSync allows me to do that). The problem is (I've tried with both Zlauncher and McFile) that although my laptop recognizes that my Clie is in range (it even knows its name :)) when I try beam the Clie always gives an error message saying "cannot find handheld computers in range". So what I'm looking for is an application that allows the ir port of the palm to communicate with any irda device, not just Palms and PPCs, and to be able to send any file, not just PRCs and PDBs. BTW I have an NX70 in case that's relevant.

Well, I haven't had this problem. I am able to beam files from my PDA to my laptop from the MS. I use Zlauncher when I do this.
The ir port on your palm isn't any different then that on the laptop, it would be a matter of protocol and from your description, that shouldn't be a problem.
The other alternative would be to set the PDA to hotsync with ir and then use MS import/export.
