I'm upgrading to a new printer and would like something that can print great digital pics as well as documents. I'm hoping to spend under $300.
I was looking at one of the HP's with build in memory stick slot so I can print photos directly from my memory stick.
Anyone have any favorites?

I've been using the HP7550 and love it for photos. For text I use an HP laserjet 1200.

have an HP all in one unit, sorry not at home to see the model # but i love it, but i don't ever use the built in MS reader, it's slow and the software to access it is great, i find it much easer to use my mult-card reader

If you want to keep those pictures any length of time, ask about how long the ink remains fade-resistant. There's a reason why most professional/artistic digital photographers go for Epson printers. Not saying that HP doesn't have durable, light-fast inks. But you need to ask. They certainly won't tell you -- until it's too late.

I remember there was a big write up and review on the longevity issue. The Epson by and far has the best!

For a good discussion on the types of inks and their advantages and disadvantages check out http://www.inkjetart.com/archival_inks.html
If you want the most protection for your photos the Epson 2200
is the way to go but it will cost you more than your preferred price.

Of course, if you don't have a digital camera that produces high quality photos then the outlay for the high end Epson would be rather foolish.

Also make sure your paper is listed as acid free and preferably 100% cotton.
