Hello. In the must have sticky thread I had heard mention of the recycle app that cleans up lost files. I would like something like this, but I am not sure since the thread is so old if that's the particular one mentioned, if that makes sense.

I know I have dl'd and deleted many apps from my Palm Centro and I want to make sure it's cleaned up... freeware would be best. any suggestions?

Solid state memory devices don't have the same fragmentation issues as hard drives. Orphaned files however can be a bit of a pain, as can orphaned preferences. There are a number of software solutions for dealing with this: Northglide sells Uninstall Manager (for installing/fully uninstalling apps) and a companion app called Cleanup; these apps tend to work well for most situations as long as you also install the latest definition files to track what files belong to what apps.

er... lol ok. I guess I'm somewhat challenged with these words and terms... I'm guessing I cant fix what has already been done but if I get something now, I can prevent future orphanees?

No, if you get the definition files, they track file creator codes so you can clean up (much of) the mess left behind by already deleted apps. The software just also has the ability to track new software you install that might not be in the definition files.

I have used UnistallManager and Cleanup for years and they are great.

Tealscan is a new utility that does allot more, it scans and fixes PIM data too. It will find orphaned data and prefs using frequently updated definition files.

They all have long free trials, check them both out.

wow this is complicated. I'm just using the Cleanup trial tool.. not even sure what I'm doing but following the manual and backing up the deletions. Most of the things that probably can be deleted I wont because I can't tell by looking at it what it is.. ugh

Cleanup works better with the "SignatureFile.pdb", which is a database of the preferences and their CreatorID.

UninstallManager can record your new programs and if you delete one, it will wipe the databases and preferences. It uses a "Sandbox".
