I read at http://www.dpreview.com/news/0301/03010905lexarmspro.asp

'Memory Stick PRO format will be equipped with MagicGate™, a copyright protection technology that consists of authentication and encryption technologies. The authentication technology ensures that protected content is only transferred between compliant devices and media, and that protected content is recorded and transferred in an encrypted format to prevent unauthorized copying or playback.

The Memory Stick PRO format also provides a unique personal data protection technology for removable media that allows users to securely and easily control access to their personal information stored on a Memory Stick PRO media.'

Does anybody know the restrictions about the MagicGate? Resp. what would be the speed loss compared to the 'normal' MS?

hi, don't think that there are any restrictions. you should be able to copy files to it with msimport (with nx/nz of course). actually the only benefit i know is that this mg-memsticks will also work with certain sony devices like ms-walkmen and support sony-software and standards like atrac/sonicstage which let you generate atrac-soundfiles from your cd's and transfer them to your stick. atrac/sonicstage come with some check-in/check-out-mechanism which shall prevent multiple copying.

How many separate copies of a song from a CD can I make with ATRAC3/SonicStage? 2 or 3? I have heard reports that if I copy a song onto a desktop, a laptop, a MagicGate Memory Stick, etc, I may have to delete some copies. Is this true?
