Will Sony be addressing the poor quality finish on the NZ. Most of the demo units I have seen the finish seems to be wearing off. If I'm going to buy this machine I want it to look hot all the time.

Your talking about demo units.. I have absolutely no finish wear on mine purchased on Feb 15. That's 3 mo. of wear in the hands every day.... Your seeing the signs of abuse, not poor quality finish.

The finish is a bit poor. I assure you, I don't abuse PDA's, and my finish is starting wearing off in quite a few spots. When I bought mine, it was already visible in a few places.

No wear on the finish here. I use an Xtreme Limit case all the time.

I want to present a theory. It is from my observation from the difference in the wear on legends on switches between my car and my wife's.... There is something in either her body chemistry or hand lotion that "eats" paint and other things from surfaces...
I think the finish on nz's is similarly suseptible... for many people, the finish is fine, and no wear on the "chrome" switches...
For others, it wears off quickly.
Since we can assume, after all the comments in this thread and others, that all of these people are telling the truth, I would submit that there are people who are just more "corrosive" to certain finishes.
All of the white decals on the switches are gone from my wife's Mercedes, and she also did the same thing to her Maxima before, and her Honda.
All of my cars have lasted about 10 years, and the dashboard buttons are fine.
She also eats the finish and legends off her cell phones, and mine look like new.

I bet it's the hand lotions... Imagine those poor demo models being exposed to the myriads of lotion types. Otherwise, the idea of caustic people is scary....

MUHAHAHAHA.... I feel like a member of the X-Men now or something. Don't you DARE shake my hand, I'm corrosive. ;)

doesn't "hot" mean stolen?
To make it look stolen, just engrave someone else's name on it, and register all the programs to a random name other than yours.

I'd have to agree. I work in IT (web programming) and the other day, one of my coworkers showed me the old laptop of one of our press people. She had rubbed more than half the letters completely off the keys! Then he showed me her new one, probably only 4 months old, and the process had started again.
There might be a different reason for this phenomenon: I remember reading about an IBM factory making plasma screens (not TVs) before automate machinery was widespread that employed a lot of women and they found out that they could predict when they would get a lot of bad screens. Spikes would happen every 28 days or so... Apparently sweat pH lowers (becomes more acidic) at "that time" and was screwing up the bonding process on the plasma screens. It might be doing the same to the paint application on the PDA.
