So I have been holding on the the 700p (and getting it working pretty good, thank you, except for the lost chunk of memory) waiting for my next big upgrade. I know the iPhone is cool, but, really, it don't do much, and I need much. So...

I have been thinking Android and some google/web oriented smart phone
or
The next palm thing. The comments by Colligan are exciting and tempting to believe in terms of the wowser effects, and - really - nobody does "useful" like Palm OS.

So now Android may come out this fall on something -- well THERE goes a two year contract! So here's my argument --

Palm needs to release some demo of what's coming to compete with the Android stuff. It could, of course, help against the individual purchases of iPhone as well. (Forget WM - all enterprise purchases)

Don't know if anyone else thinks this way but buying my own unit and carrier contract makes me want to be pretty sure on the next leap. And it will be a big one.

Cheers.

I'd like to get more info on Android before weighing in. Maybe Palm has something up its sleeve with the next OS version. Maybe they are just down, but not out... yet! ;)

Palm has been extremely secretive about their new OS and I expect them to provide information on their schedule, not ours.

It has been almost 2 years since ACCESS has unveiled that ALP and still we haven't seen any phone that is running on that new platform.

Just to refresh people's memories: http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=13804
The Samsung i800 is ready, according to Access, it's just a matter of Orange releasing it to the UK, which could continue being delayed.

Some reports are saying it could be out September earliest

When people were whining about the m505's dim screen, they announced that the m515 would be coming with a brighter screen and sales dropped off to near zero. Palm has never pre-announced anything after that fiasco.

And not a peep about any third-party applications for that platform.

Well, reportedly 85% of the existing PalmOS applications will work on ALP. As well, Java programs are supported. But yea, not any real word about ALP-native ports.
