Hi!

I can't beam (infrared) using my TX. If I do a hard reset, then I can beam. As I would like to avoid reinstalling all from scratch, I would like to know what can I do to recover beaming.

I deleted from the Saved Prefs the IrDA Library (2 items) and it doesn't recover the Beam function, I also deleted the IrDA Library from the Unsaved Preference and lost the beaming from the context menues.

Had to restore, but was not lucky though. Any clues so I can keep the TX without doing a clean install?

Thanks for any input. :)

When you say "can't beam," what are the symptoms? Greyed out option in the menu? failure to receive? Do other infra-red apps work (universal remotes, IR Monkey, IR Monitor etc)?

Hi _Em: Just realized I posted in the wrong section. It was meant for the T|X threads. Sorry, if any moderator or admin can move it, it's ok.

I get: "Could not find a receiving device". Same if another Palm tries to send me something. If trying to beam with FileZ, I get the same message. But then I get: "Error:exg:No Receiver in sendDB()d", "An error occured and the item could not be sent".

Novii does not work. I will download IRMonitor to see what happens.

Well, that tells me that the problem is at the IrDA hardware driver level, not at the IrDA serial driver level; for some reason the hardware driver isn't initing properly even though the serial driver is taking input from the OS and trying to buffer data for output.

The hardware driver is in ROM, so either you've got something running as a background process that is locking up the IrDA port, or you have a copy of one of the ROM files in RAM and it has become corrupted.

Novii bypasses the serial driver and communicates directly with the hardware driver; it's a good test to see which driver is causing the problem.

IRMonitor chimes and makes a graph if I try to send something from another Palm. If I exit, then I can't receive or send (by beaming).

It has to be a corrupted "something", or as you said, something in the background, as a hard reset cures the problem. Trouble appears again by restoring...

I deleted the latest things I tried, but nothing. Anyways, if I can find the culprit, I will have to do a spring cleaning (probably not before next weekend). :)

Thanks!

Greek, I'm guessing you are using Piloc right?

Disable it, soft reset and try again.

Try to fix that problem with cleanstart. First select only all rom application ... ir transfer ok ? Then go on and add more and more installed apps. So you can find the app that make troubles.

(I've had the same problem with my centro. No ir sending oder ir recieve. After hardreset it works. Then i deleted within cleanstart all apps that don't need a reset at startup ... and then ir send/recieve works again. )

@alt236: no Piloc, just plain English. :)

@Another Michael: will try CleanStart, I forgot about it. :D

Will let you know. :)

alt236,

Which localization of PiLoc are you using? Anything to do besides turn off localization & soft reset?

TIA,

I'm using the Greek localisation.

Piloc in general wreaks havoc with beaming when switched on.

Found it faster than I thought I would: BtToggle. Weird because I've been using it for years. Deleted databases and preferences but it still blocks beaming. I will have to install a fresh version and see what happens. Thanks everyone! :)

Used to happen on my TX every now and then, a soft reset would do the trick.
