I just bought an SJ20 and was surprised how narrow the screen is. I bought it with a keyboard and hoping to use it as portable word processor. But not sure with this small screen. Are there any models with wider screens? Some of the top end models seem to have longer screens, but they all look to be the same width, although I couldn't really tell from the web stats.

All the screens of the various Clie models are about the same width. If the screen is wider, it'd be really hard to hold it in one hand.

The NX has a larger resolution and can hold more text on the screen.

A Sony salesman today told me the SJ33 had a wider screen. Is that bull****?

AFAIK, All Cliés come with either a 320x320 or 320x480 res.
I think there are a few older PalmOS PDAs that have a physically larger screen than others, but they still run at the same resolution (160x160 for lo-res, 320x320 for hi-res) as the rest...the pixels are just larger.

Some clies had 160x160, but theyre not made anymore, moparmike. All new ones are either 320x320 or 230x480 if it is an NR/NX/NZ

Yuppers, all current Clié models are hi-res.
I threw that useless bit of trivia in even though the original poster was asking bout Clié's...you might notice I said "PalmOS PDA" instead of Clié. :D
There was an older model that had an approx 1/4" larger screen (both dimensions)...the display was very coarse looking. Was it an early TRG maybe? It was an odd brand that I wasn't familiar with (at the time only Palm and the fancy "new" handspring appeared out here in the sticks. :)) Yes, it was PalmOS powered.
--edit--
nevermind my babble, I remember where I saw that larger 160x160 display
That larger display was on a palmOS bar-code scanner that one of our suppliers were using. Kinda neat little tool, in addition to whatever scanner software it was using, it even had most of the default apps onboard yet (calc, address, todo, and memopad).

I dunno. Why? It's maybe 20 pixels less or so. Remember that apps can still use the full screen without the bar.

I disagree. If you look closely at the SJ20, there's a dark blue border around the screen. This decreases the usable screen size.

The screen is still 320x320 pixels, regardless of the border. The SJ33 is not wider than that.
