French Atomik keyboard for Mykbd

A guy on the Palmattitude web site has requested the French researcher Mathieu Raynal (http://www.irit.fr/~Mathieu.Raynal/application-clavier.php) to design a French Atomik keyboard (http://forum.palmattitude.org/index.php?showtopic=43913).
I am curious if there is any reason why the space character is centered in the English Atomik keyboard (it is not in the French keyboard). Any idea about it, e.g. from Pruss ?

The space character is centered because there is a space after every word, and so the space is one of the most common characters.
