View Full Version : Improving WiFi?

I could spend months searching or I can ask the experts.

Is there a TX app that increases the range of WiFi connectivity? Seems the transmission is weak - I receive a good signal but the 'sending' takes forever.

Suggestions?

i believe that is hardware related. The TX is not as fast as a normal laptop is but fast enough to download files under 10mb. Also your home network connection will always be faster that the internet speed that goes out through your router, so this can be also the issue. If im not wrong the speed of the TX wifi is 11 kbps ? while that from the laptops is 56 kpbs; so if your internet connection goes at say 24 then you just not use the full width of your wifi. Also if the connection speed of the server you are trying to connect is lower then you will see the slowdown too.

I dont believe there is a hack to improve the TXs wifi speed. Get a better router, faster internet connection, or visit faster servers...

Church Punk is correct. The T/X uses 802.11b at 11 mbps, not 802.11g at 54 mbps. However, if you're only using it for internet, it's still way faster than most cable modems.

One thing you might try. Go into Prefs, then under Communication bring up Wi-Fi. There is a checkbox there that says "Conserve Power". If it's checked, uncheck it and see if that helps. But note that it will use up the battery quicker.

Yeah, thanks for the tips guys -- I've tried different things.

It seems the 'sending' packets are way slower than the received packets, as if the TX is a low-powered sender. I'll live with it.

It is possible to make an antenna extender (out of foil or similar) -- a few people on here have done that and it seems to help. That's about the only option though.
