I had been stuck to Mapopolis,
but new version of Handmap seems to be an eyecandy, and also can read maps in VFS without moving to main memory, though cannot do address search. Other advantages are.... you can buy major citi-map collections and also easy to shift to GPS version. (In Handmap you only need to add a plugin, while in Mapopolis you need to change all the maps if you haven't subscribed GPS version). Interestingly, maps in Handmap seems to be much smaller than those of Mapopolis, while you can show the types of landmark in the map. (In mapopolis you cannnot distinguish the type of landmarks). I think only the disadvantage is lacking address search, and covered area.

handmap is not high res (and therefore not high res plus). but that all depends on what pda you are using. so you may not get as much map for the screen. the cheaper option (assuming you have acid image or fire viewer) is to save maps as gif or bmg, which then can be read.

I can't find any of those maps in any store. I bought Maps to go a couple of weeks ago (with my SL-10 which has now been returned for a TG-50). I didn't like it because it seems that it wasn't made for street addresses and stuff. I just bought Rand McNally StreetFinder. If anyone has used this could you tell me how it is or any website with info on this. I also saw one made by Declemore (I think that was the name). Thanks for any help.

i have tried almost every map program out there.

mapopolis is the best (imho) because you can do address searches and point to point directions on the handheld. the others make you do the point to point directions on the desktop and then download the results to the handheld. that is fine unless you actually want to go some place different while you are out.

you can find mapopolis at mapopolis.com (http://www.mapopolis.com)

the one year subscription will probably last you a much longer unless the area you are in changes a lot. with a subscription you can download as many maps as you can stand. all of US and Canada as well as a lot of Europe.

Mapopolis is a fine map application.

Damn all you guys are giving me so much help thanks. This is our first family vacation (going back home) and I want it to go smooth. I don't have enough time to get that program I am working with RandMcnally and it is better than any I have messed with before. I like that you can see the attractions on your map.
