Another new Clie rumor...this one is true

I am an employee of Sony living in Japan and am taking a huge risk sharing this information to all of you, but here goes...
P.S. I did not enter this as an Unregistered user because hiding my identity may make you think I am a non-credible source.

Sorry to break the news to you guys, but the next update from Sony for both the T series and NX is going to be a step down from previous versions. Here are the specs:

NX-59 and NX-69V
-Usual NX form factor, but 1 inch thicker and 5 oz. heavier. than the NZ-90
-320x480 HiRes+ screen
-Dragonball 66MHz processor
-8MB RAM Only 3MB of which are available and will be incompatible with Jackflash.
-Built-in 0.25 megapixel camera (NX-69V only)
-Palm OS v3.5
-Proprietary slot for WLAN card (will not work with Eruware driver)
-MS slot (does work with MSPro)
-No built-in bluetooth
-Price: $799 NX-69V
$699 NX-59


TG49
-T form factor, but .75 in. thicker and 3 oz. heavier than the TG-50
-320x320 Hires screen
-Dragonball 66MHz processor
-8MB RAM, only 7MB available (incompatible with Jackflash)
-Palm OS v3.5
-QWERTY Keyboard on the backside
-No silk graffiti area
-MS slot (does work with MSPro)
-SD slot (no current SD cards are compatible and Sony has no plans at this time to develop an SD card for the slot and Sony will not be releasing any info to developers regarding drivers for the SD slot)

I thought that was one of my most innovative ideas, finally somebody noticed it. The way I see it is most people type on the TG50 with their thumbs because it would be awkward to use the rest of your fingers to type on the front. So, if you put the keyboard on the backside, you can grasp the PDA with your thumbs and have the rest of your fingers free to type on the other side. This should increase your data entry speed significantly!

Nah. Not to drag this topic too far off, but while Curb Your Enthusiasm is probably the 2nd best series of all time, it can't top Seinfeld. CYE is basically Seinfeld with curses and situations that happen more regularly. Seinfeld was more popular because more people can understand it. You're missing the point. Clie gurus (or gowrows, however you spell it) will always buy the newest models just because they are new regardless of the specs. So Sony is taking advantage of this fact by making cheaper models with less than average specs so they can widen their profit margin. You watch, NX69V, TG49 and 200 BC models will be flying off the shelves in a few weeks and Sony will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Tough to agree with this. Remember the original Zire? Several goo-roos thought this was a bad idea and would kill Palm. I think I read somewhere the sales reports said it was the best selling PDA ever! I don't think it hurt their market share a bit!

I was thinking of starting a new thread regarding the specs of the new Clie but I will just post here.
Since I am a Sony employee I can say that you people are all totally misinformed.
The name will be changed from Clie to Lester.
It will have built in wifi but instead of bluetooth it will have dogtooth.
It will have the same case as the NX70 but because of the built in wifi, the CF slot will be converted to a small toaster.

How much is Sony planning on charging for this NX-200 BC? If this is truly the direction Sony is headed, then I may make the switch to PocketPC. It sounds like this is a big mistake for Sony. I don't see much need for a handheld device of this kind. But out of curiosity, does anyone know what the specs are of this device. All I know so far is the screen was replaced with a stone tablet and the stylus is a chisel. Is it capable of running Palm software? If so, how do you view your software without a screen. Does it have a memory stick slot? What is the speed? How much RAM?

Memory Sticks and Stones can break my bones but naming conventions can never hurt me. You guys are hoping to get into the Bronze Age, while we are already using Titanium. At least Palm is using Tungsten like Thomas Edison.

Turn it off by hitting yourself in the head with the unit. But the tablet screen won't last that long; it doesn’t need to be refreshed, but the delete function (sanding down the previous carvings and engravings) is terrible for tablet screen life

Stone throw wireless may be great for your emerging US markets, but in Europe everyone has already long ago adopted catapault technology, which just goes to show you how much you know.

as appealing as the 200BC sounds, this is still nothing compared to the goal Sony has set itsself, believe me (I am the president of Sony Corp., but please don't tell anyone at Sony I told you this)!

There is a secret R&D-team put together just for this goal, with an unlimited budget.
Though I can not tell every detail just now, the basic idea is, that for an price somewhere around 1000 US dollars, people can buy a device that is so small...that it can be taken anywhere, everytime. In fact it is so small...that it is actually an empty titanium tiny box with a single carbon/kevlar button. ALL the input (and output, for that matter) is done with that single button!
The REVOLUTIONARY part of it is that, when, for example, you want to input an appointment, you just say it aloud while pushing the putton. By some weird and secret technology this data should then remain stored....INSIDE YOUR OWN BRAIN!!!! Then, at the time of the appointment, your own brain should even have a sort of in-built alarm, noticing you that it is time for action.
But that is not all, there's much more! Beaming will be made unneccecary, instead of that you can actually transfer the desired data to another person (yes, straight to the other PERSON, not just his PDA!) just by speaking it out aloud (while pushing the button ofcourse)!! The receiving person can then -provided ofcource he also has this new revolutionary device- capture this data into his own brain just by listening to it while pushing the button!! It will even be possible to transfer data to more then one person at a time!
Unbelievable as this all may sound, even more improvemants are already in developement, though not to be expected reality within the next five years or so: while pushing the button, it should be possible to transfer data of a sort that has never been possible to transfer using common technology, such as....feelings!
Imagine pushing the button while kissing the receiving person...and they actualy FEEL that you love them!!!!

CYE is basically Seinfeld with curses and situations that happen more regularly. Seinfeld was more popular because more people can understand it. Well ANYWAY, I'm getting sick of all these rumors. Nobody has a clue what they're talking about anymore. I'm going back to believing Sony will release two devices, the NX100 with 300 MHz, 32 MB, and 1 MP camera, and the other model with a 5 GB HD. Something about that makes more sense than any of the other 5 rumors flying around.


In Japan a Fujitsu-Siemens model (or Toshiba cant remember now) was released with a microdrive (1GB) I thought that was reasonablely effective. If the physical size were the same, (as a 5gb model) then I could see it coming.

Sony needs to go horizontal - :) Picturebook style, i think it would make the high (HIGH) end clie more functional for businerss users, and its powerful enough, to be......say a ClieBook™ :) I think that would be neato. lol
