Somehow I've lost the ability to sync the memo pad application. I've gone to the HotSync Manager and it Memo Pad doesn't even show up as an application where you can select :
Sync or do nothing or handheld overwrites desktop etc.
I've tried reinstalling the desktop software from the cd-rom, but nothing has changed.
Any suggestions?

What your missing is the memo conduit.
I have never tried the solution below and it was posted by someone else long ago.
If you're using a PC (i.e. non-Mac) create a shortcut for hotsync. Right click the new shortcut and edit the command line by adding a "-r" (without quotes) to the end. It should look something like this:
"X:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\HOTSYNC.EXE" -r
where X:\ is the drive where your hotsync.exe file is located
when finished, hit OK and double-click the shortcut.
What this does: according to Palm, this is the command line to reset the hotsync conduits, no loss of data should occur.

Tried the "-r" , didn't work.
Any other ideas?

I run Palm Desktop on three PCs (my home PC, my work desktop, and my laptop), and I keep my NX70V sync'd to all three of them. It's a pain in the rear, but my critical Address Book and Date Book data are backed up all over the place and easy to get to.
I had this problem on my home PC when I first installed. I backed up my data directory, uninstalled Palm Desktop, rebooted and reinstalled. That worked for me.

Installing OVER what's already there, should fix the problem and not cause data loss . . . I've done it before, when I had a simliar issue.
Good luck!
