I read somewhere that if a piece of aluminum foil is placed between the... digitizer? and the screen then the annoying buzzing sound that plagues many a TX goes away?

If this is true, how may I do this properly?

Best to use WarpSpeed at PalmPowerUps to ellinimate screen whine. It worked like charm on my TX.

I've heard of this practice with cardboard, but not foil. To put your ears at ease you can wrap the TX in a beach towel... ;)

Dmitry must not have been in a selling mood because his WarpSpeed (http://www.palmpowerups.com/readarticle.php?article_id=7) app removed my screen whine. There is at least one free WhineHack (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=155828) available though I haven't used that one - there's a brief discussion here (http://old.hackndev.com/node/441#comment). I think there were a couple others also. Go go Google!

EDIT: I took too long to dig up the info. Looks like I was beaten to the punch on WarpSpeed. At least you know it's been seconded.

And thirded. WS worked like a charm on my TX. And I under and overclock with it too - what more could you ask for?

Also, a word of caution on WhineHack -- using it can cause hardware issues down the road.

what kind of issues, btw?

Alternatively, my LD gets louder with Warpdrive. Not sure why..

If you aren't scared about putting a piece of tinfoil inside a sophisticated electronic device, you should be !

Ld is special. you need a special build of warpspeed for it. i never released it i think

The foil is used as a shim to go between the digitizer and the LCD. It is put around the four edges of the LCD, between the LCD and digitizer. The foil does not come into contact with any electrical conductors. It cannot come out of place. It is encased so to speak. There is nothing to be scared of unless you are not handy working with small delicate stuff.

WS did get rid of my screen whine, but the permanant way to do it is just replace the digitizer

ever since I replaced my digitizer I do not hear a thing, (not even sceenwhine during resets) :D

I know you are kind of retiring, Dmitry... but if you have it... would you mind making it available? My LD whine just happens to hit certain pitches that dive me buggy sometimes! :) My mutant canine hearing!
