Hi,
newbie here, on this site and with Clies. Just got my 615C and encounter a few problems before I can get to work:
1 - I learned from Palm that the Palm-CD, in the "extras" folder, contains some Mac software I will need to IR-sync through a Powerbook (2400, 8.6):
* IrDA Tool
* IrDALib
* IrLanScannerPPC
* SerialShimLib
I can't locate the software anywhere online, and noone I know has that CD either. Would you know where to find those four items?
2 - I don't have USB yet, neither on my office computer nor on the 2400, and didn't plan to switch to a newer Powerbook until a few months down the road. The Clie cradle has a USB-connector; can one connect that through an adapter (would be have to be USB-female to MiniDin8 male) to the Mac-serial port, such as modem or printer? Or is there, besides IR, another way to hotsync which I'm overlooking?
Many thanks,
-tobias.
Tobias,
That's a *very* old system, so I'm afraid you might be out of luck. The oldest version of Palm Desktop which works with the Clie is v. 2.6.3, which I believe requires OS 9.1 (double check that). It would include everything you need for IR-syncing, however.
For USB syncing, your computer would still need the USB drivers, so an adapter isn't enough.
It might be time to spring for a new PowerBook. The new ones are truly beautiful, so you can hardly go wrong.

I could probably dig them up, if you need them I could email to you?

Many thanks for your inputs!
- 2.6.3 works with OS 8.6 (which I run on the 2400 since it's much more lightfooted than 9.1).
- I found all the necessary files, but still can't IR-sync. Wonder if the Sony needs the (AMX.prc, IrLib.prc, SerialIrPnl.prc and SerIrCommLib.prc)-files installed.
- Since I don't yet have an USB-Mac yet, I decided to try a Clie->Windows Serial->Mac Serial cable-combo: slow (I'll post a separate thread for that to see if someone has an idea) but works!
- I'm lusting for an iBook, but the curse of the self-employed... save for a rainy day and don't spend the last check. The list btw also includes a new motorcycle, but that's another story :-D

parkblue, it's great to hear that there are still people who don't give up with their "old" technology and work hard for solutions. :) The T615C is a great compact model. It's the best OS4 model I've used. You might need a hard case for that for your motorcycle ;)
elo, I'll decide to spring for a new Powerbook when I see what the new 15" line would offer.

parkblue, those extensions you seek come with OS 8.6. If they are not there, I fear you dont have a complete OS install. You could always use TomeViewer to extract those files from an 8.6 CD or 8.6 update. I agree that 8.6 is the best 2400 OS (even with a G3 upgrade), so stick to your guns. Lastly, I used to run 8.6 on my 2400 with the OS 9.0.4 version of Open Transport to enable use of AirPort 1.3 with my Lucent card. It ALL worked a treat, but requires use of TomeViewer and some knowledge. PM me if you want to go down this path and need help. Note that the OS 9.0.4. set of Open Transport came with updated versions of those extensions, though I don't feel it's required.

Joel - txs! - Jaydisc, didn't see your other response earlier... Duo/2400-list highly recommends 8.6 on that powerbook, and I'd agree. I do run a modified system (both Carbon and QT updated) though without problems.
I wonder though where the hotsync "speedlimit" I experience comes from. Any clues?
