View Full Version : Can ROM TXs be bricked?

Guys,
I've been wondering... I had a Flash TX once, but bricked it due to incompatible software. (I used UDMH 3.0 on it - my bad!) I'm wondering if the same kind of thing could happen if I had been using a ROM TX instead. It's impossible to write to a ROM TX, so I am guessing that they can't be bricked. Is that in fact the case?
Knowing this would make me feel a lot more secure about my TX.

Maybe not "brick" in the tainted FLASH sense of the word, but you can still kill it with software. I wasted one while playing with PXA Clocker. Even after time for battery drain, recharges, every type of reset, I couldn't recover it. Someone like Dmitry with proper interface and debugging knowledge and tools may have reanimated it, but I had to send it back to Palm.

you can still brick a rom tx
just fill the first nand page with zeros and enjoy :-)
If you check the old threads on here, you'll see that I bricked one ROM TX pretty much by doing what Dmitry suggested above ;)
It's less likely you'll accidentally brick a ROM TX, but it can still happen if you do something stupid.

if you want, i can provide you an app to overwrite this sector with zeroes :-)

scottl,
Then you need to contact Chris Short. As you may have seen in thread on Apt (hey, everyone else, check it out) my TX died, & he brought it back to life & did it in a responsible, professional manner & great turnaround time... I'll PM you w/his details.

I had NVFS fry due to short out via charger. I think that qualifies as a brick, but not due to my stupidity :o
OK; I was assuming any hardware-induced brickage would be due to intentional miswiring etc... but I guess ignorance and acts of God count too ;)
