Welp, I finally recieved my NX after about a month of shipping blunders, now I have a few questions. I just sold my PocketPC to get my new Clie, and the last time I used PalmOS was on my IIIxe, so Im a bit behind.

I am specifically looking for a luncher that looks REALLY good. Visual style is very important to me. Plus I need good Outlook/Exchange connectivity. Basically bringing me to where I was on my PocketPC.

I need some suggestions...

I know zLauncher and YiShow are popular but Im not sure which one to get into.

Some general tips and application pointers would be greatly apreciated. Im feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to get everything working as well as my PocketPC did. I really want to enjoy my new purchase.

I think you can get most info about the launcher from using the search, it's a much discussed topic.

As for the PPC<->NX ... personally I didn't find it all that different, except that the NX worked easier =)

I would recommend you read through some of the threads in the Cliesource Launcher forum. I think you'll find that the vast majority prefer ZLauncher, which really has no negatives except for maybe footprint. It has eye candy, is very customizable, is very powerful, has it's own file manager that blows away nearly all regular file managers, has great support, lots of new features consistently added, and it's the cheapest!!

As for Outlook/Exchange, I haven't synced anything but email with Outlook, but I think PocketMirror is still the best way to go for this. Maybe others who use it more can chime in.

I call mine Klee, like it or not :)

Goodluck with your new unit :)!

Get PowerRun and JackFlash, they will help you maximize your memory needs. A memory stick is a must. I also love my ZLauncher, for 3rd party launchers it can't be beat for service and price alone!

BTW, if you want an addictive game, try Bejeweled from Astraware.

N2ifp,

How much more space is available when using JackFlash? And which Clie are you using it with? Thanks.

I'm one of the few LauncherX fans. With LauncherX, who needs PowerRun? I don't use it anymore since LauncherX does great with running apps off the MS or CF and will synch these too.

ejanssen,

Is that right, with LX, you did not have to use Powerrun? Are you completely satisfy with LX without powerrun, or are there certain limits that you couldn't overcome?

I have LX on my HE330 and am getting my NX70, and I have been thinking that since so many people are using ZL, I may have to forked out $12.00 for ZL. But I am glad to hear that you are satisfied with it.

I do find that on the HE330, it is rather slow when LX scans for files. I grew quite impatient with it. Do you find it to be a problem in your NX or NZ?

Thanks in advance,
John

For those of you with more experience with memory sticks,

I am very new to memory sticks and been looking at possibility of getting a 256mb from ebay for now. It is odd to me to find that some of these 256MB memory sticks are advertised as 128X2. Why is this so? Is this common? Isn't there one where you have whole 256MB and not separatede? When they are separated like this, aren't we losing some memory as we don't get a complete 128MB for each ms?

Also, any recommendation as far as brand and where to get one for a good price?

Thanks,
John

Those are the Memory Stick DUO's where you have to remove your stick and flip a switch to access the other 128 Megs.

Yes. Those are the Memory Stick PRO's.

You can find more info on both of these on Sony's website.

Klondikelip,

Thanks for that info. As far as the non-pro ms, do all 256MB ones come in as "DUO" only, or are there non-duo ones as well?

I know you mentioned that the whole 256MB are the "pros", but I am just hoping to get away with a "whole" 256mb regular ms without paying for the price of the pros.

I haven't heard anything about the original memory sticks being developed above 128Mb. Unfortunately, if you want the larger sized memory sticks, you'd have to go with the PRO's. The cheaper alternative is to buy the compact flash driver and a compact flash memory card. I haven't tried it yet so I can't tell you much about it, but there is a whole forum devoted to it on this site.

Klondikelip,

Thanks again for the info. I currently have Handera 330 so I have quite a few CF already. But I remember reading somewhere saying that a ms is a must, so I just thought I need to get one. If I can do without one, I am set with my CF.

HandEra 330 processor:
Motorola DragonBall VZ 33 MHz

Sony Clie NX70V processor:
Intel StrongARM SA-1110 200 MHz

There is a noticeable speed difference with the faster processor. Keep in mind that your HandEra runs Palm OS3.5 and the NX70V runs Palm OS5. You'll have to download the latest versions.

I run ZLauncher on mine and love it. It's cheaper than most launchers but it does take up more space...especially with wallpapers loaded. You can always check it out during your free trial period.

One more thing. The 256 Memory Stick (128x2) is actually the Memory Stick SELECT and not the DUO as I said before. Sorry for the mixup.

I doubt that - they're probably standard MS Select that he's seeing.

Thanks for your patience. I know that these are very basic questions, but to new user, they are new news. So I appreciate all your tollarance.

Besides the speed issue, what may be some other advantages of the PRO over the standard. I am going to strickly using MS for the NX.

Best,
John
