View Full Version : First 5 Purchased APPS
YAY My first Post!!!!
Anyways, just picked up my nx70 yesterday to replace my HP Jornada. My first impressions - AWESOME! I've done quite a bit of research on the apps available, and was curious as to what you all recommend getting first. Try to list one game, one launcher, one utility, etc.
From what I've read so far this is my initial to be purchased list:
1 - zLauncher
2 - Splash Wallet
3 - Armageddon
4 - Documents to Go
5 - FilePoint 2.1
Thanks for your input in advance ;)

If they are available, buy them from Handango. If you look around there are usually 10%+ off coupons to be found.

Instead of FilePoint for $49 you should take a look at SyncWizard for $23. It gives you the desktop access that FilePoint provides and since ZLauncher already has a file manager built-in you don't need that part of FilePoint. Just a suggestion! :)
1. ZLauncher
2. Datebk5
3. JackFlash
4. PowerRunner
5. CF Utility

1. ZLauncher (launcher and file utility)
2. Datebk5 or Agendus (both are more advanced calender programs for your Clie. I prefer Datebk5 but I would recommend trying both to see which you like best)
3. Aggression (Risk-clone with great graphics and displays in landscape mode on your Clie)
4. iSilo (read websites and DOC files on the go)
5. JackFlash (copy your new programs to Flash to save room on your RAM for data)

Does anybody use it?

I can easily recommend 4 apps to be the first that you buy.
1) ZLauncher
2) Jackflash
3) DateBk5
4) AcidImage
These 4 are apps that I think everyone has a use for, and they are all solid apps.
All of my other apps are ones that I feel are more user-specific; some will like them and others won't. Since you mentioned a Game category, the game I have the looks and plays best on the NX would have to be Billiards.
BTW, the NX comes with Docs2Go, so unless you're talking about upgrading to the Pro version, I would hold off on buying it. The included version has Word and Excel support, both of which are high-res+.

Oh wait, I just thought of a 5th I can recommend. BackupMan. Everyone should have a backup app, and the included one, MSBackup, doesn't have automatic scheduling capability, which for most people means that their backups are often out of date. I do a lot of beta testing, which often require hard resets, and BackupMan has handled them all flawlessly!! The reason I forgot this before is that this is the type of app you usually never use. It does it's business in the middle of the night and is gone before you even notice it.

CF Driver Good call on Fonts4NX. Another app you never actually invoke, so it slips your mind, but it makes the NX look so much better in every app!!

Certainly, it is the single most important app I have. After having tried it I couldn't go back to the normal system font, so I bought it and now I switch between Times New Roman and Sans Serif mostly.

Yes, I haven't played it as much as I used to. After all, I have had Bejeweled for more than two years. Right now, my interest is in Aggression.

BTW, I Bejeweled Anonymous really helped me a lot in my recovery. that program helps me to play Bejeweled responsibly.
Thanks guys for the awesome info!!!! I can tell this site is is going to wear out my browser :D
Again Thanks I really appreciate the input. I know that a lot of the software is based on personal use, but usually there are 4 or 5 apps that EVERYONE seems to use.
Thanks Again for your help, keep the suggestions rolling in :)

JackFlash, CF Utility, and Fonts 4 NX don't seem to be available form Handango any suggestions??

CF Driver is available either from Eruware or the GlobalSource store here on Cliesource. Jackflash is only available on Handango I believe and Fonts4NX can be found on www.palmgear.com.
Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I couldn't narrow the list down to 5 - the closest I could get was 8. The following 8 programs are what I decided on and just purchased :)
1 - ZLauncher
2 - JackFlash
3 - DateBK5
4 - AcidImage
5 - Billiards
6 - Fonts4NX
7 - CF Driver
8 - BackupMan

Now for DateBk5 (often called DB5 around here), you need to go get the latest beta version. The latest release version for DB5 doesn't have full support for the NX (since the NX came out after that release version), but the latest beta has lots of extra goodies for the NX. And don't be scared off by the word 'beta'. His betas are more stable than the majority of other developers release software. Here's where you can find pG, which is the latest beta.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pimlicodatebk/message/32800
You also need to request the Jackflash beta version, as the release version of it doesn't support the NX. After you get your Jackflash code, go to Brayder's site and request the new beta (www.brayder.com).

Apps I've purchased:
Zlauncher
AcidImage
JackFlash
FastCPU (Don't need this any more on new PDA)
DataBook5
HandBase3 (My most used app)
ISilo
Monopoly
Freeware:
Today (I can't believe this isn't on everybodies list!)
Couple freeware games
What I am really suprised to NOT see is database apps on peoples devices! This is easily my most used application! I've got darned near everything in there. I've made at least 15 different databases that carry the bulk of my must have info at my fingertips. (Address/contacts, NFL footbal schedule, shopping lists, reference databases for development work, reference databases for other technical fields, etc, etc).
Simply indispensible and was the driving force in actually purchasing one of these devices.

Well, speaking only for myself, I have addresses stored in the Address app and football and hockey schedules stored as a memo. Plus, I have shopping list and plenty of other kinds of lists stored in Handyshopper, which is freeware and very powerful. So, in my situation, there hasn't been anything that I couldn't do with those apps, and given their ease of use, it never really seemed necessary to go through the trouble of setting up a DB.

1. WorldMate (i use this EVERYDAY gives you a 5 day forecast on hundreds of cities in the world, plus currency rates (rarely use))
2. Open (use to track hours a store is open, or how many hours until it opens, this is freeware and has saved me many a trips to store windows looking at their hours)
3. SplashID (already mentioned, but I couldn't live without this, have hundreds of personal info bits; you never realize how much you have until you start keeping track of it all)
4. iambic mail (i dont write email from my palm, but I get a lot of important messages that I like to keep the notes handy, has saved me more than a few times)
5. agendus (or datebook, whatever you prefer; not a fan of the default).

I have 115 apps on my T665C (as of this morning) accumulated over almost four years (all listed and described on my website), but if I were starting out today, these would be the first five I'd buy:
1. ZLauncher - Powerful, highly configurable launcher w/built-in file manager and image viewer.
2. Datebk5 - My second brain. Nothing else comes close.
3. MyBible - Never go anywhere w/o the Word.
4. WordSmith - Only full-featured word processor for Palm OS--WYSIWYG including TrueType font support.
5. BackupBuddy - Saved my butt more times than I can count. No Palm OS user should be w/o it.
The first freeware apps I'd get are:
X-Master - manage hacks
FontHack123 4.0c - change my Clie fonts to Lubak's OS5 fonts
DALauncher - manage Desk Accessories
Lots of free DAs
Everything else can come with time. What you actually need depends on your personal requirements, though, not what the rest of us use.

I don't believe that there is a beta at this time. CESD just released DB5 v5.1a S1 which can be downloaded at www.pimlicosoftware.com
