Is it possible to do this without running the Palm installer from Sony? I already have Palm 4.1 running for my M505 and it has actually hotsynced to the Sony Clie from the network using the WiFi card, but the computer will not recognize the Clie if it's attached directly to the USB port. It wants to run the new hardware wizard and it fails to find the driver. I have installed the MS SCSI driver that comes on the Sony CD, but that didn't help.

I really don't want to lose my Palm setup for the M505 as it is quite nicely hooked into my apps. I figure if I try install the original Sony Palm Desktop, it will overwrite my current one with the older 4.01 version, and drop connectivity for the Palm M505 device.

Thanks,

Hey I figured it out.

I installed the Sony Desktop software on a notebook then copied the two Clie files from the USB_Driver folder. The 2 files were CLSH00DA.inf and CLIEUSBE.CAT. The third file was the PALMUSBD.SYS file, and a newer version was already in the folder used by my Palm M505.

I just did a HotSync from the Clie when it was attached to the USB port, and when it did the "Found New Hardware" routine, I pointed it to the USB_Drivers folder, and presto it loaded the driver.

Now my system will HotSync to both the M505 and the Clie NX70v/u via the USB port. The Clie can also HotSync via the network too, which is really cool.

I hope this may help out someone else in the future.
