View Full Version : tcp/ip troubleshooting for PalmOS5

When I was using PalmIIIc with PalmOS 3.5 I had a little application named "Ping"
It was giving statistics about tcp/ip connection of the Palm. (the current IP adress, tcp and udp packet counts, etc.)
That application does not support PalmOS 5 and fails.
Is there a similar application for PalmOS 5 which I could see my IP address and get statistics besides pinging hosts ?

Yes, in prefs, network, options, view log, use the pull down menu and look at the network log. There are commands that can be entered there too, but I don't remember what they all were or where I had seen them last. Ping is one that does work though.

When I do this I can see the log but when I enter a ping command nothing happens - how did you get this to work?
Thanks

I don't do anything special. I run the program I enter the IP address I want pinged.

that was really cool. I did not know that the log section had commands. with "?" command you can see the available commands.
they are ping, info, finger and nettrace.
I could not find how to use nettrace. any idea ?

One caveat, you have to be connected, otherwise nothing will happen.

Larry
I am connected but when I enter e.g. ping ipaddress I get nothing? I have tried the command in quotes and without but nothing.
The top of the log screen shows the details of the connection
Is there something I am missing?
Thanks

There's also another little ping program compatible with Palm OS 5 called Mergic Ping, it's Freeware:

Sounds like your connected, but not going anywhere. What's your status, have you connected to the internet yet? Can you WiFi HotSync? I am not sure if your having technical difficulties or not

Larry - I can connect to Web, pick up emails, Hotsync via wifi with no problems
When I vew the log when I am connected, if I type
ping ipaddreess (nothing happens)
If I type
"ping ipaddress" (nothing happens)
After typing the command if select Done I come out of the screen and if I press the Newline after the command nothing happens
I can see the command on the screen
Any cluies?
Thanks

Good news!
It just dawned on me to tell you, to ping an actual IP address :)

The problem was that after typing the command you had to select Done and then hit the Enter key
All sorted now..cheers again

I just found this today. It works great on my NX with the Sony WiFi CF card:

MergicVPN will not work on Palm OS 5 and does not support Sony WL100 card!

Here is the response from the developer:
"There is a version of Mergic VPN on the Tungsten C OS 5 device but it uses a special VPN interface that's only available on that device. At this point I'm not sure if Palm is going to expand the support for the interface to other devices or not, or if there's any chance that PalmSource would acquire the technology for use in devices from other licensees.
There is also work going on to support OS 5 generically but there's not a release date set yet. There are issues involved in developing the driver support for OS 5 that are requiring support from PalmSource. Progress is being made but there's still quite a bit to be done. The approach taken should work with the WL100 but we aren't sure yet that there won't be problems.
I'll keep your email address and let you know when an OS 5 release or beta becomes available"
Lets see what happens

Ah, as soon as you mentioned the T/C, it then hit me that I had seen it before :)
