My clie t665 keeps turning on when in my travel bag. This drains the battery if I dont catchit. I make sure to turn it OFF and then flip the "HOLD" switch on the left side (this is supposed to prevent turning on when latched).
any ideas?
I have updated this post to clarity the HOLD button. I am using it but it still comes on. not sure why.
I don't know the exact name of it, but there's a hack that disables the hard-buttons from turning on the Clie, maybe "StayOffHack"?
I would think that if you have the Hold switch in the up position that you should be OK, but if somehow the Clie is getting turned on, set the auto-off time to the shortest duration, and also think about using a case for better protection of the buttons (and the whole Clie as well).
That is HOLD button is for.

I use a utility called "Keep Sleep" -- it adds itself to the Palm preferences list. You can set it to prevent any button other than the power button from turning on the Clie. It's free -- here:

It does NOT disable alarms, which is one reason I like it.

Do a search on this forum for an app called Poweron.
It's not free but allows all buttons to be individually blocked from switching on. You can also set the power button to require two presses to switch on.

Another vote for KeepSleep- simple, small, stable, and FREE. It adds a section to the Prefs menu- ( ) Disable hardware buttons and ( ) Disable all sounds.
Hold button works great also... but I have a terrible time getting in the habit of using it (I guess I am too used to my 'pre-hold' PDA days!)

How odd.The 'Hold' button should prevent the machine from turning on by itself in any way.Very odd.Yes,you could use StayOffHack. That'd be pretty useful for your case

That's strange that your hold switch won't work. When you push hold w/ the power on does the screen say hold in the middle then go blank?

Make sure your LED alarm is OFF and the alarm sound to audible so you know the unit is on. Set it to turn itself OFF in less than an hour.

I do have the same problem and trying to find it out now. I had installed a 2-key hack so that no accidental "on" action occured. The unit remain power off for 3 days on the desk and when i tried to turn it on, the battery is totally drained. The unit was fully charged prior to that incident. Recently, my battery also acting very strangely. I had put it in a cradle for the whole night and the unit battery shows that it is only 50% charge. I will try to figure this thing out.
Sounds like it's time to change the battery? How old is it?

Dan T,
That's is what I first thought but the unit is less than 2 years old. Even if I want to change the battery, I don't know where I can do it....Let's see in the next 2 weeks if the problem persist. I even follow Tanker Bob advice to soft reset the unit while in the cradle to sort of clear the cycle charge...
Check out Cliebattery.com (http://www.cliebattery.com/). It sells battery and provides removal instruction manual.
My N760C is 21 months old and seems to start showing old age. It discharges quickly. I pretty much have to charge it everyday as the capacity seems to go down to around 60% range after 3-4 hour use time now. I've removed its battery once for cleaning the dust behind the glass screen. It was pretty easy.
$49 for a battery is not bad considering it will make the Clie feel like brand new again.

I've had the same problem from time to time...what worked for me was just a simple reset. I did that last weekend, and haven't had a problem since.
