It is Sony's own OS. Royalty free!

only problem is the small screen.. I don't like the roundness of it either..

Can you imagine if sony attached a 320x480 LCD screen to the back of this beast, loaded it up with OS5.2 and called it the Sony CLIE CS (Cybershot)

It will hit the stores (in Japan) at the 23rd of May and the list price is 100.000 Yen (=US$860). I have no clue what it will cost in the US though, but it's quite pricy. The alternative would be the P10 with less features, but lower price (actually 50%).
The camera looks like a smaller version of the F717 and I can confirm that the picture quality of F717 is awesome.
I'll take a closer look at this camera next week then... and get back to you guys.

yOyOYoo: it would be terrible. who would want to use a large camera as a PDA? using a smallish pda as a toy camera is okay, but not the other way around.. that thing is huge to be used as a PDA (and has a terrible form factor for PDA use)
I just bought the P8

I think it's more like an upgraded DSC-S85 since it's not an SLR. This too was an awsome 4 MP camera--much better than the smaller 4 MP DSC-P9. Miniturization is great but when it comes to camera lenses you lose an awful lot by going with the smaller models. This will be a great camera. The preorder price is $700 US.

I'm no professional or hobbyist photographer or anything, so I find that I use a camera a LOT more if it is very small and portable. I'd rather give up a little quality to have something that I don't have to think about whether or not I want to carry with me than to have a great quality camera that I rarely have with me/rarely use. I just carry my tiny camera with me wherever I go, not knowing if I'll actually use it or not, but I'm glad when something comes up that I want to take a picture of and I have my camera with me.

I love my 717... truely a beautiful camera... more so than the Nikon 5700 and I grew up on nikons. This looks like a beauty as well because it is so compact.... but I can´t complain because I love that I can add my wide angle and telephoto attachment lenses as well as a flash on the hotshoe. Í´´m on vacation in europe just waiting for a police officer to jump me because the sony case for the 717 looks like a gun holster.:D
