I just bought a used Clie PEG-SJ22 at a thrift store ($25, if you're interested). I had no good reason, other than being overcome at finding one at a thrift store and irrationally lusting for it (I have a brand new Palm TX, so it's really irrational to buy the Clie too). In any event, I have it now ...

I've got one question, and one observation.

The question is this: the thing is missing its stylus. Is there a source for replacement Sony Clie styli? I didn't see anything on the Sony site.

The observation is this. The unit obviously hadn't been powered on in ages, but with several hours of charging, it came right back to glorious life, all clean and fresh and with its out-of-the-box software.

And then I noticed that the unit had a built-in Backup and Restore utility. And then I noticed that it had a 128Meg Memory Stick in it. So I tried the "Restore" option. Wow: Tons of stuff came right back. I felt like an archaeologist. There was some guy's entire life before me: zillions of appointments, memos, categories, to-dos (most checked off--he was conscientious), phone numbers, names and addresses.--including the guy's own name and address under Owner (same town where I live, so I might try to contact him). I even found out that his last Hotsync was in September 2004. He was pretty religious: many categories and recurring meetings were church-related; he had a Bible reader program too. He had a couple of games: a racing car game (I'm not a gamer and don't now remember the names), and some sort of rocket-shoots-invaders game, and maybe one or two others.

And the memory stick had one lonely photo of a man holding a baby.

It's hard to explain how strange it all felt to be looking at this guy's past life; it must be the kind of experience that excites historians.

It was really weird.

I don't know of a Sony-branded source, but I never noticed a difference from those sold on e-Bay, and I've found the ones that include a pen to be handy.

Ah! Of course -- should have thought of eBay. Thanks.
