View Full Version : Airport Extreme, anyone?
Hi all,
I have just replaced my old Airport Extreme 'mushroom' base station (802.11b/g) with one of those brick shaped ones (802.11n). I have configured it to use b/g compatibilty mode, but I have no luck connecting my LD to it. The PDA detects the network and shows it in the available networks list, but when I try to select it, it just says 'no connection'. I have tried enabling/disabling the MAC address control of the Base, and enabling/disabling password security also, but even with all restrictions disabled, the LD still acts the same.
Any clue?

i am pretty sure that those only support g and n, not b
so unless you replace the wifi chip in your device with a later version (they have drop-in pin-compatible replacement: WLAN6100EB that supports 802.11g [at least the spec sheet for the current chip claims those two are pin compabile]) you are SOL
I see, I presumed it could be some kind of software problem :/ Thanks for your help, dmitry!

I have a brick Airport Extreme base station, latest firmware, it works fine.
I turned off WPA to test this for you, works fine with no password
I will try with WEP tomorrow night.
Livedrive with 16gb CF card, os 2.0 update.

Scott fixed his issue with a fix we've recommended for other wireless issues: switch from 802.11n to 802.11g/b only. This can, obviously, result in speed degradation, but may resolve compatibility issues with some devices. This can be accomplished by going into the Airport Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities, clicking on the "Airport" button at the top, going into the "Wireless" tab, and holding down the option button while clicking on the pop-up menu for "Radio Mode."
fixed an HP connection issue.

Thanks for your advice, Mendodave... I hard resetted my LD and reformatted it using PowerDrive and now it connects perfectly (using WPA/WPA2 Personal security on the AirPort base). It seems it was just a config problem after all :)
