In Japan they do, but not usable elsewhere. Someone earlier today was talking about one that was Bluetooth. Otherwise it's a serial cable, mapware, and a separate GPS unit.

Hi

I'm not recommending these in any way shape or form but I did notice these on eBay while I was looking for a case for my NX.

EBAY (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3024180872&category=3730)

Hope it helps.

I'm going to wait for the Earthmate GPS - PDA Power Pack to be released next month:
http://www.delorme.com/earthmate/configurations.asp

The nice thing is that "powerpack" includes all the hardware to hook it to a laptop too! All you need to buy is the model specific RS232 sync-type cable!
I almost bought the Holux, but I didn't like the fact that you could only use it in your car. Naaaah, I'm not excited about it at all! Of course once I see the price I may not be too excited anymore ;)

Hi Larry,

where does one find this serial cable?

Thanks!

Holux, Rikaline and Haicom sell GPS mouse solutions. Or you can connect a standalone GPS with a data cable. You can buy a cable (serial or brand specific) from www.pc-mobile.com.

mouserider, you can also find most of the GPS-PDA cables at SupplyNet (http://www.thesupplynet.com).

Damn!  Now they've changed to a July ship date!!!!  Probably better that way anyhow, seeing as I just got laid off today I probably shouldn't be buying 250+ worth of unneccesary stuff!  Maybe by July I will have a job!!!  Anyone want to hire a C programmer? *grin*

I have one that I purchased recently through PCMall. They are the authorized reseller for Mapopolis. Mapopolis sells a kit which includes an external antenna that is powered by your cigarette lighter. The antenna has two powerful magnets so that you can attach it to the top of your car. The included cable powers both your Clie and the antenna at the same time. I happen to own the same Clie you mentioned. The mapping software worked great on a recent business trip to Memphis, TN. Start up time averaged only three seconds for me. The moving dot followed almost every curved road I encountered. If you check this forum, many people have been happy with the Mapopolis solution. I know I am. Hope this helps.

Holux also sell a GPS CF Card. http://www.holux-uk.com/Products/270/270main.htm Would be nice if eruware could add this to the driver list.

I think these are very good picture for showing how to use the GPS system.

Especially the cable from the hat to the belt really looks innovative. This can probably be linked to the straw that goes down from the soda can.

But seriously, why does the GPS have to be at the hat???

I have to agree that you don't need it to be in/on your hat. The Socket Bluetooth GPS for example. Since it has a quad helix antenna, reception is quite good. You can actually put it on your shirt pocket, use the case that comes with it on your belt, or probably in your backpack or jeans pocket. I heard of people putting it inside the glove compartment of their cars and it still works (using a laptop map software).

Mouserider,

If you are somewhat handy with a soldering iron, this is a much cheaper solution.

http://astro1.panet.utoledo.edu/~igor/GPS2Clie.html

I use it and it works perfectly with my GPS as well as with my cell phone for internet connections.
