Yea. You will have no problems if you leave it in. I have a MS card in my NX70V 100% of the time.

Are you sure that doesn't drain the batteries at all? Anyways, if it weren't for the Clie itself (or cases with MS holders), I'd have a hard time not losing the thing.

It may drain a bit of battery power since it needs to energise the MS to read off it whether it is switched on or off (more power is drained whilst the device is switched on since it needs to read off the MS).
But overall, the convenience of leaving the MS in the slot outweighs the power drain (I would say the backlight would drain the battery a hell of a lot faster than the MS would!).
If you are concerned about losing the contents of your RAM, I suggest that you use MSBackup on the CLIE to backup the contents of RAM to MS.
If you are concerned that draining the battery on the CLIE will wipe the MS - it won't! MS is a non-volatile device. The worst you can do to is to remove the MS whilst any device is writing to the MS. A bit like punching out the floppy while you are writing a file to it.

i"ve seen some sandisks with a LED in it, even that would have to be on constint for any batt. drain

I think the memory sticks with the LED, the LED only come on when the MS is reading or writing.

Leave it in. You'll be fine. The battery drain will never be noticed.

I have my unit set to backup every morning at 5am. So every single day I have an up-to-date backup ready in the event of anything drastic. This is just one advantage of leaving your MS in all the time. I've done it for almost two years now, and I have had no problems.
Thank you all very much. People are saying to use MS backup. I have backup buddy VFS. does anyone have experience with that program or recommend one over the other?. Other things can be on the card besides the backup data, correct?Thank you all for your help.

I am using BackupBuddyVFS on my NX. It's nothing super fancy, but it does exactly what I need.
I've had good experiance with PiBackupII as well.

The last few posts here shifted topics, so on this tangent...
I cannot get BackupBuddy VFS to run on my SJ-30 unless I babysit it. It's _slow_ and times out, shutting off, unless I tap on the screen. MSBackup works fine, but cannot be scheduled.
No replies from Blue Nomad when I asked them for help, so... any suggestions for BB-VFS or for other programs prepared to make scheduled, unattended backups to MS?
Thanks for your comments,
Ran

Backing up is a good idea!
I use the simple MSBackup since I back up my data once a week and since I am usually next to my PC (isn't everybody around here?! :) ) - I manually set it going.
BackupBuddy and PiBackup II are the two most popular backup programs that can schedule a backup on a regular basis. I personally couldn't justify the cost versus manual backup - but others could... :)
hey Ran,
Have you downloaded the latest BB VFS. It seems to work fine on the SJ22.
Blue Nomad has been more then responsive to my tech support requests. Maybe give it another try. I am experimenting with something now though. I am trying to determine that if you have your Clie plugged in to ac power when it wakes up for a scheduled backup, I am testing to see if it turns back off. I know that it does on battery power.
take care

I've never noticed any adverse effects on my SJ-20s batteries and my MS hasn't left it's slot in since January;)

1) My version of BB VFS is 2.01, extracted from the desktop 1.51 download. Looking at the website, I think that's the newest, but if I'm wrong, please tell me.
2) Everyone says Blue Nomad has great support; I'm sure they do. I just bug them because I want their Mac desktop conduit to achieve feature parity with Windoze.
3) My SJ-30 does not honor the check box setting regarding staying on when powered, regardless of soft and hard resets.
I reviewed their suggestions for BB VFS trouble shooting, and see if amy of them do the trick.
