I am about to buy a SJ33...

How well does the VM run on the device?
How is the sound handled? For the CD version of Monkey Island f.ex. will the MP3 files work, like on the PPCs?

Thanks alot and nice work!

SCUMMVM is not emulator, its a virtual machine.

Check out the official faq:
http://www.scummvm.org/faq.php

How well does it work on the SJ series?
Do the sound generally and the MP3 support specially work at the moment?

O.K. - I accept the fact that I may look like an idiot but I can't get any of the ScummVM games to even start. It displays a message asking me to select / insert a memory card. Any idea what is going on? I have the games stored in their own directory under palm/programs/ScummVM/games.

Let me give you an example. Monkey Island is stored in palm/programs/ScummVM/games/monkey and the path in the setup is "monkey/". I even tried "palm/programs/ScummVM/games/monkey/" and it still didn't work.

What is a virtual machine... I was in the page and maybe I'm stupid but I don't get it... do you play game with it? or just watch pictures and if you do play games where do you buy them?

I'm having the same problem. I have day of the tentacle
and have tried a path with ../ScummVM/Games/DOTT in every combination and it's says cannot find tentacle.000 and crashes. I know it's on my memory stick. I've double checked the path on MS gate.

just figured it out. I just entered dott/ and it worked!

Try just entering "dott" instead of the full pathname.

SCUMM is a 2D game engine that several old computer games from the early 1990's were built around. Some of the best-known games that use SCUMM were published by LucasArts (google it), including the Monkey Island series, Maniac Mansion, Sam and Max Hit the Road, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, and more. Pretty much all of these games are of the "point and click" variety and the basic game operations consist of "pick up" "talk to" "push" "and open." These games were originally released for the PC, and other old computers I don't remember the names of. You can still buy most of them through LucasArt's website since many of them were re-released in bundles a few years ago.

Now, what is ScummVM? Take, for example, the computer language Java. Programs that are written in Java can be run on any platform that has a Java Virtual Machine (JVM), which is a thingee that...understands...the java...stuff. Heh.

ScummVM works the same way (sort of?). If there is a...SCUMM...interpreting....thingy for a given platform (don't quote me on this) such as the PalmOS, you should be able to run the... SCUMM....stuff on it. There's also a port the PocketPC.

Uhh...someone feel free to correct me here.

No problem for me ... perhaps this is due to your MM2 version ?
Really don't know ... did you try with the windows version ?

Music is OK, no MP support for now...

Does the compatibility list from http://www.scummvm.org/compatibility.php apply for the palm OS version too?

F.ex. There is no sound support for "The Secret of Monkey Island" listed

I finally got DOTT to run on my NX70V - but no sound. Is there supposed to be sound?

chrilith
05-19-2003, 09:28 AM
yes you need to check enable music on the sound prefs panel

kmf
05-21-2003, 05:50 PM
Even if I enable sound on the prefs menu, I don't seem to get sound/music. Am I supposed to change anything except the enable music checkbox (I own a NX70 btw)? I used to get sound in the previous versions.

BTW excellent job otherwise chrilith, you can really see the time and effort you put in :)

the new readme is very limited. YOu think you could make one a little bit more detailed like it used to be?

I am confused about what to put in for path:

Do I simply put "[path]/" or [Games]/

I'm not sure...

chrilith
05-23-2003, 03:02 AM
if you put your game on INDY/ in /Palm/Programs/ScummVM/Games/

use INDY/

if anywhere else use : the full path ex : /My Games/INDY/

yOyOYoo

do I need to enter something special under "Game:"

AW man I was getting Monkey Island 2 running perfectly. it even saved. The problem was upon exit, I got the white screen of death with fatal error memory mgr or something like that.

chrilith

what scummvm version ?

Hi Chrilith -- Just wanted to thank you for Palm SCUMM! I finally have Indy Atlantis, SamnMax Hit The Road and Day of the Tentacle all working great. Once in a while the odd error message or crasb but, overall, amazingly stable. My only suggestion is that you might consider redoing the ReadMe with a better "begin here" type of section. I had to read literally dozens of messages here simply to figure out that the only files I had to install were the <game>.### files in subfolders for each game. I'd be happy to email you a ReadMe if you think that would help as I know you want to be programming rather than documenting! Anyway, thanks and now I have to buy more games from LucasArts -- they should give you a commission!!!

Can someone tell me if there's supposed to be sound? I'm using a TG50 and I've already enabled the music and selected Yamaha, but yet no sound!!

At least dott works, but it's a little slow. ;)

no, tried it, didn't work... no savegames were created. i have the main scumm files on my nx70, the gamefiles in the correct folder structure on my mem stick. i checked also that the files aren't read-only and created temporarily "Saved" folders because sometimes a message appears saying something like "couldn't create xxx in .../Saved" - nothing helped.

i really enjoy this program, but i think i could enjoy it even more without this problem... :D

- pda: nx70v/e
- memory stick: lexar 128 mb
- OS version: 5.0 german
- location game on MS: /Palm/Programs/ScummVM/Games/
- game language: all german (mi1, mi2, indy4, samnmax)
- version of scummVM: 0.5.1

ah, didn't know there is a new version, thx.
but - it didn't seem to help. ok, let's see...
i start a game, open the menu, select a save game slot and klick save. now the save button is grey and i'm able to klick load which was grey before i saved. i leave the menu, reenter it and nothing was saved...
does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

My virtual graffiti looks very messed up (colors are all wrong) when I run ScummVM, has anyone else run into this problem?
If so, am I running an incorrect setting? Using a NX73V, any help would be great!

chrilith

this is normal, ScummVM works in 256color and so it alter the palette of the virtual graffiti

Yes, you need to buy the games off of the Lucus Arts site.
