I have just taken my T|X out of its box and am now charging it up.

Are there any software updates or firmwares that I should run?

Daylight Savings Time Update.
yep, that would be the main one. You might also consider the european EUAudio patch to reduce the hiss, as long as you RescoLock the patch.

Don't install the cradle patch -- that one hangs up the device

There's also the security panel update

Where would I find this, and also the "security panel update"? On the Palm support site? What does RescoLock mean? As it is, I don't seem to suffer from the hiss problem as yet. Will give this my close attention later tonight when everything around me is quiet.

Thanks vovka1965 and _Em. You are making me very :)

I guess I could have been snarky and said "you can find them on Google", but I didn't :)

Resco Locker is freeware from Resco that will lock the first record of a database in memory (IIRC). This is for apps that are not completely NVFS compliant.

You can get it here (http://www.resco.net/palm/locker/default.asp) .

You didn't because you knew I would have had to come down very hard on you, _Em ;) Many thanks

BTW where do I put a .prc for it to sync? Am I right in thinking it should go into the "Files to Install" folder? The Palm support page only mentions a "Install Handheld Files window". I am on Mac BTW.

It looks as if I don't need the "security panel update" as my OS version is Garnet 5.4.9:

"Palm T|X
5.0.4 or 5.0.4P or 20.0: Yes, install now
5.0.5M or 21.0: No, already updated"

The above from: http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=EUPalmSupport,ts=PALMEU_UK,Case=Obj(9850)#Top

On a Mac, just double click the PRC OR run the Palm Quick Install.app file and drag the prc into its window OR grab a copy of Drag'nTooth and install via Bluetooth, completely avoiding HotSync for installation.

You could also use WiFile Light (bundled on your Palm CD) to connect to your Mac via WiFi and grab the files that way.

Or, you could grab a copy of The Missing Sync, and totally scrap Palm Desktop/Hotsync. This way you can sync iTunes playlists as well, and do bluetooth/network hotsyncs as well as USB hotsyncs.

You might also want to look into getting a copy of Drive Mode or Mobile Systems' Card Export to mount your device as a USB drive.

Well, that gives me something to think about during next few days... :)

Thanks, _Em.

And if you use the WIFI a lot and you have to connect to a network which uses PEAP protection, you should consider buying the Enterprise Security Update.

I am not sure yet how much I will use Wi-Fi, but I have made a note of your suggestion, hgradeca. Thanks.

The following freeware utilities by Alex Pruss are something like the updates that Palm should have done but did not do...

FixField
FixWifi
AutoWifi

I think these are all available from the 1src freeware area.

Also, if you're left-handed, there's something called Handedness from payalba.com that makes Palm actually remember your handedness setting...

The previous 3 are great. To continue on the Alex Pruss theme, I can't live without ClipExtend (http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Tweaks/ClipExtend-28385.shtml) to "Remove the 1000 character limit on clipboard copy and cut" and paste. I hated to install YAHM (included in the ClipExtend .zip), but Dmitry's PowerClip didn't work for me. There is a thread dedicated to this tool here (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122389&page=1&pp=15&highlight=clipextend).

Don't try to download this app from the first post in that thread... Palmgear.com is history. Use the link in this post.
