If StyleTap releases a descent iPhone version, I'll highly consider selling my 680 for one. Otherwise, no thanks.

I hope Databis gets it and ports over Doc to go suite over.

styletap wont work as wel as you hope ...no stylus - hard to tap small buttons, no good grafity based input, no hard buttons, etc...
Hi guys, my first post here! Anyway, if the input methods on the iPhone/iPod touch were not so intricate (like using a combination of larger buttons to achieve a letter), then I would be interested. Otherwise I am sticking with my TX.

I already have one (an iPhone), so the announcement of the SDK obviously is not a deciding factor for me, but it certainly is welcome. I am not so much interested in running Palm applications on it as I am in seeing a couple of key functions added. I fully expect it to replace my Palm eventually, and the SDK is part of making that happen.

I am very surprised that multitasking is totally locked out from 3rd party apps: this seems even worse then Palm OS 5 where IM, email and music apps can have their own way of working in the background.
Yet, the iPhone could never work as my main device before they come up with a better method of text input then the on screen keypad. Even taking a short note in notepad is a pain with that touch screen keypad for me (don't start to accuse me of never trying it, I did, several times). They keys are too small, and the text prediction feature always insists on something I didn't want.
And with that sandbox treatment to all 3rd party apps, I doubt that anyone could write system plug-in type apps such as replacement text input methods (I'd really love to see a Graffiti or Decuma like hand writing recognition app on the iPhone, even if there's no stylus).

and we all know palmos cannot be overclocked or skinned, right :D

I don't mind carrying a stylus with me, or using a make-shift one, but I hadn't thought of the hard button issue. Kind of an obvious thing, huh? Guess that curbs that temptation.

Hey Dmitry,
you going to turn your hand to iphone coding??

me? after i finish the ram resizing app for the lifedrive i'll try it. certainly seems like it has a few limitations of its own that can be broken :)
Plus as an added advantage it allows me to avoid WM, which i hate with a passion

I don't mind carrying a stylus with me, or using a make-shift one...A stylus won't work whether you have one or not. The screen only responds to touch. It won't even work with a gloved hand.

I bought an iPod Touch, hope to see it tommorow :)
The game demos did look cool in the apple presentation but it worry's me that there is no way for apps to have 'plug-ins' by thier documentation. Hopefully that will change in the future.

You can't multitask with the SDK so its useless IMHO! At least you can pseudo multitask in Palm OS.
iPhone OS and SDK is a waste of good hardware.
JAmerican
iPhone OS is OS X -- full cooperative multitasking.
The SDK on the other hand is a bit of a joke on multiple levels:
1) no multitasking
2) restrictive license (you can't write a web browser, a SIP client, etc. and even Sun is reconsidering implementing Java with it due to legal issues).
3) no external storage interface (yes, software really DOES run in a walled garden on the iPhone).
4) hardware limitations regarding performance
5) no Flash/Java support (see 3 and 4)
The third party SDK is still a much better option for anyone wanting to do really interesting things on the platform.

0. OSX is pre-emptive multitasking, not cooperative
1. wait till i get at it :)
2. never stopped me before :)
3. bt + BT harddisk, wifi + internet
4. ARM11 at 600 MHz is better then palm's ARM 9 at 300
5. see 3 and 4

re: iPhone SDK intentional limitations and restrictions
There is still the jailbreak/homebrew approach to the iPhone, and it will continue to grow after widespread use of the iPhone SDK.
Jailbreak homebrew gives you all the Cocoa UI features of the iPhone SDK and access to everything else!
Jailbreak homebrew apps already exist for many of the areas that banned by the SDK. Also you don't need to sell it through the iTunes store and pay Apple 30% or $99 flat fee.
Here's an article hitting many of the points:
http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2008/03/10/developer-iphone-sdk-crippled-jailbreaking-to-continue/
----
Of course for developers who want to sell to the masses of iPhone owners, the iPhone SDK and iTunes distribution are the way to go.

But, it's an Apple.......
Just got 16GB as backup to my 8GB yesterday. With Zibri's help, I can use it w/o SIM card, like iPod Touch, or with any SIM card under the sun for that matter, no longer depending on the mercy of AT&T. :)
After 5 month toying with one, I start to forget how to use stylus and typing one-handed thumb job becoming pretty fast and handy. No more fumbling and looking for stylus. ;)
My pant's front pockets now only have two things, iPhone in one and wallet in the other. Nothing on the back pocket that would stick to my rear end while sitting. Pretty liberating feeling. :D

I have to admit that I am excited for the SDK release. My iPhone would be perfect with d2go

Hi. this post is primarily for Dmitry. Nice work man. i'm hoping you'd come up with something like this though. i'm sure thousands of people are hoping too. styletap support is only 320x320 i think, but if an emulator can work at this level (full screen - they share the same screen resolution) it would be awesome. is it at all possible? hope dmitry can give us all an idea :) thanks in advance
