ProfileSaver is a simple utility that lets you have multiple profiles for any app that saves its settings in the standard preference databases. Tap on "Save" to save the current preference settings for the app as a profile. Tap on "Restore" to load a profile into the current preference settings.

I wrote this because I wanted to be able to keep track of my place in an audiobook I am listening to in an mp3 player (TCPMP) while yet being able to play other things for the kids. Now after I finish listening to a portion, all I need to do is save a profile, and then later I can restore a profile.

Use at your own risk. You should have a backup before using!

ALex, could this possibly be used as a "Preferences Backup" tool? Once someone was to figure out which apps it works with, we could then save a default/normal profile for those apps, then after a hard reset and rebuild we could simply reload those profiles and get all of our settings back? I realize most of the time we would use NVBackup to restore the device, but there are times when a manual install is the best thing to do and resetting prefs can be one of the worst apsects of the rebuild. I'm thinking serial numbers and apps with MANY settings (Resco Explorer comes to mind).

I think I'll play with it with Prefs Backup as my goal.

It seems there is a glitch to use this app as I planned. Alex, would it be possible to save the profiles to an SD card rather than internal memory, then those profiles could be more "portable". Thanks!

BTW, it does work as advertised so far - even though I haven't figured out another reason to use it in within my usage patterns.

So far the way I've done preferences restore during a rebuild (doing one now :( ) is to restore the saved and unsaved prefs files from my most recent NVB backup set. Not the best option as this restores a bunch of junk you don't need as well, but it works.

I enabled it for the Phone application on my Treo and saved the profile. I have a problem, ProfileSaver is not the culprit. :D

For some reason, the cell provider I have, can't be seen by the Treo in automatic mode. (It's not a problem of my cell, happens to all Treos from the 600 to 680 with that operator, the other two operators are picked properly in automatic mode).

So I have to go to Phone, Options, Select Network, and manually choose the 900/1800MHz band. When the operator appears, I select it, tap OK and it's done. But if the Treo resets, it starts searching in Automatic mode, I can't make my manual selection to be a Preference. I have to manually pick the band again. Can it be done with ProfileSaver or in some other way?

Thanks for any idea. :)
