Okay, all-knowing cliesource folks... I'm going to be moving out of my T665c and into another (T665-- don't ask, it involves a drop onto asphalt). What do I need to do to make the transfer as smooth as possible, without doing a lot of manual switching-over of apps/information/etc.?

You're going to have to put apps on through hotsync no matter what so go through and put them back on after a charging period then press the hotsync button and put the old MS into it and BAM! You're done:)

Your address, datebook, memos, todos and such should pop right back on.:)

Hm, that seems simple! Something even I can't screw up...

Is there any way to pop my preferences, etc. over to the new machine all at once (i.e., giving my new T665c the same hotsync name as the old one)?

Upon further research, I found this thread. (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13927)

Nothin' like searching existing information to answer a question!

U can rename ur hotsych name in the hotsync manager and hotsych into the 665C. by right, when u hotsych, everything will go right in.

This is the easiest of circumstances. First, perform the prescribed 4-hour charging period. Then just press the Hotsync button while the new device is still in the cradle. The PC will think that you hard reset your device and restore everything. BUT--make sure that the new device is pristine. If not, hard reset it first, then hotsync it.

or if your a good little boy/girl and back up to memroy stick every now and then (i do it more then i hot sync - twice a month!) you can just pop the stick in your new clié and restore. i've done it after my t665 hard reset itself... (something about overclocking software being on when i told it to be off....)

I bought 2 palm zires for a total of $107 (shipped) after dropping my 665 (2x) and fixing the broken lcd. I have the same hotsync id on both, and keep them both synced as the same device. The trick is to: right click the hotsync icon and select custom, then modifiy the system conduit to say desktop overwrites handheld. THen hotsync the device you want to update. Works like a charm (and now I have disposable palms :) ) Brian
