I have been trying to get the automatic email retrieval working with versamail. No such at all. I set up the timer and activated automatic retrieval at 5 minute intervals over a long time, but versamail never does a thing.

Are you using UnCache or CleanStart? Multiple versamail files need to be notified after reset for automatic retrieval to work. I don't know exactly which, I stopped using automatic retrieveal once I started using uncache.

If you also decide not to add the necessary files to uncache/cleanstart and stop using automatic retrieval in versamail, do not forget to turn it off in versamail. My TX got unstable if the system time/date changed (for instance when NVBackup, did a network time synchronize).

I turned off automatic retrieval completely. Yes I was sure to check that CLEANSTART did not deactivate any part of VERSAMAIL. I still got an error message that literally said to contact tech support for assistance. My TX is so old that I doubt I could get any useful assistance.

Right now I am in pursuit of a automatic script/macro program tool that could work to automate the once a day retrieval of email via WIFI and POP. Should be a simple thing to do.

Just to make sure: did you also check for 'MultiMail' files in cleanstart? (MMNotify etc..). Did you try with cleanstart disabled (or all files get notified setting)?

No I did not try that!! Thanks for the suggestion Frink. I will check on MMNotify and MultiMail to see if CLEANSTART has them turned off. I suspect you could be correct as I had another application that had problems until I messed about with CLEANSTART and got the right peripheral applications to run and be re-started with CLEANSTART.

More experiments to try!! I am starting to like my PALM TX again.

used CLEANSTART to turn on all my ROM applications, and turn on all my ALWAYS START PANELS. That seemed to have corrected the email wifi sync issue (not certain - but looking better). I will do more testing tonight.

I noticed that the battery seems to be running out overnight. What is that all about?

I noticed that the battery seems to be running out overnight. What is that all about? Are you using the timesync function of NVBackup? If versamail autosync is turned on but not working correctly (because cleanstart/uncache is not configured properly) my palm would become unreliable after a system timechange, both manually and automatically like the network time sync that NVBackup offers. So every after a scheduled backup and time sync in the middle of the night my palm would freeze (with the screen on) and rundown the battery.

This is really weird FRINK!! I was going to post a message about this UNRELIABLE issue last night, but here you are mentioning this exact issue. What seems to be unreliable is NVBACKUP itself. The scheduled backup works great - BUT - DO NOT set the flag to restart - soft reset within NVBACKUP, as the palm will lock on and run the battery down. Just tell NVBACKUP to do its automatic thing, and that works great. Someone else mentioned that they were using 2PLAYME to do an automatic soft restart, and now I know why.

Back with VERSAMAIL - it also will become unreliable and cause a lock up if you set it to automatically get email at certain times of night. I got VERSAMAIL to retrieve email, per your above suggestions, but now it makes the palm stay on and run the battery down.

Thinking that we both have a memory management problem. Maybe too many applications in memory like:
1) NVBACKUP - automatic timed
2) NVBACKUP - system soft restart
3) VERSAMAIL - automatic email wifi pop retrieval
4) QUICKMAIL - automatic update (have not done this but thinking on it)

Still thinking of trying the MACROPLAY application as a better solution. You would think some other 1SRC geeks here would jump on this discussion, just me and you so far?

Actually, I stopped using the scheduled retrieval in Versamail and my TX has no problems. I think it is not too useful anyway, my WiFi it not always in range, battery life is reduced and I don't want the alert sound in the middle of the night :)

In my case, NVBackup was NOT the root cause of the problem, because if I did a manual time change in system prefs, my palm would also become unstable. I traced it to versamail and decided to disable automatic email retrieval. I think NVBackup is a very reliable piece of software from a very skilled programmer.

Anyway since you do not mention it, I assume you do not use the time synchronization option in NVBackup? (and you do have the latest version right?)

Not sure why you are having problems with the restart flag (I do not use it) but you may search for threads with NVBackup in the subject.

Maybe WiFiFix will help you:

Good luck

*** No I do not do TIME SYNC in NVBACKUP - yes I have the current version

*** Yes good idea on that. Will seach for NVbackup discussions.

*** Already installed WIFIFIX so I assume it is working already.

Good luck
