When transfering files from memory stick to compact flash, I cannot transfer them directly to then identical directory, they have to be first put into another directory then into the final directory.
Is there a way to transfer without going around the houses?

Using a card reader, I've not had that problem. But using the Clie Files program on the handheld, one is restricted to copying to a different folder as you describe.

As you say using card readers they both have different drive letters, but walking around with my laptop defeats the object of having the Clie, so slow route will have to do at the moment....

You have another option. Get an alternate file manager for your Clie. I use the File Manager on ZLauncher (http://www.zztechs.com/en/zlauncher/index.php4) (you need the latest version which supports dual expansion cards). I know with McFile (http://www.jade.dti.ne.jp/~imazeki/palm/McFL/index-e.html) you can transfer files to the same directory as well. I prefer ZLauncher's file manager because it shows the progress of the transfer which is great for transferring large files. In McFile, if you transfer a 100 MB movie file, you will be left wondering after 20-30 minutes if your Clie froze or if the file is still transferring. In ZLauncher you will see the progress bar moving so you know that your Clie did not freeze.

You have yet another option.
Use clie files to rename one directory.
I do this with the /MSAUDIO directory to transfer songs so that I don't have to move files twice.
1) Rename the directory on the CF to /MSAUDIO2
2) Move files from <MS> /MSAUDIO to <CF> /MSAUDIO2
3) Rename the <CF> directory to the original name /MSAUDIO
This takes MUCH less time than moving the files twice using a temp directory.
To rename a directory in ClieFiles
1) put a check next to the directory (Selecting it but not going
into it)
2) Use the menu option 'Rename'

ok whats the deal, i tried doing what you had listed. i can see the directories in clie files and the songs in msaudio, but cant play them as they are not showing up in audio player. i have done a few searches for transferring mp3's to cf from mem stick but no one seems to agree as to which way to do it. how come there is no onw way to get this to work now that the new update has just been released. sorry if this is redundant guys but my brain is scrambled trying to make sense of all these posts and "tricks"
