Canada sucks when it comes to technology. We are always behind the USA and Europe. As a result I have to buy a bluetooth dongle state side and want to make the right purchase from the get go. I have read numerous threads however few comment directly with the NZ and win XP and trouble free bt dongles. Please give me your opinions it would be greatly appreciated.

This is the oNE I use.
Belkin Bluetooth™ USB Adapter Part # F8T001
I picked it because I found the most support for it on Cliesource.
So i knew it would work with my NZ90 and XP.
Plus, I can transfer files from my Computer to my NZ90 with Bluetooth!
I have been very happy with it and have been using it for about 1 week now

I use the MSI PC2PC USB Bluetooth Adapter. With the new updated software on www.msi.com.tw. It works GREAT with my 8910i and NZ90.
I'm currently trying to get an AVM BlueFritz (probably only available in Europe) to work. Yet, the thing is very ISDN minded, ie. the manual and all of AVM's FAQs make you believe that you need AVM's ISDN access point to use it (which I don't have). All this messes with my current installed (non-AVM) ISDN PBX (a Siemens Gigaset 3070) which I don't use for Internet access since I have DSL. Yet, I want to keep my PBX connected to use caller ID notification and other TAPI stuff.
Supposedly the BlueFritz is very good range-wise and in supported profiles - I can't confirm yet.
mole
(Sorry, if all this isn't very useful in maple leaf country.)
Edit: I'll return the dongle. I learned from the producer that it cannot be used without its own ISDN-CAPI driver and then I would be unable to use my current ISDN setup. AVM actually advised me to return it. :(

I use the Belkin with the fin. Great w/ the NZ90 and other BT PDAs and accessories. The fin version has greater range, and is worth it.

how do you transfer files? besides hotsync? Is there an MS import like application that will allow me to transfer mp3s and other files without hotsyncing to my TG50?

Buy.com has
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10329172&loc=101
it seems to have 2 pcs of BTs. Wonder if its the same thing. BTW how can it have longer range when TG50 still has 10 meters? do they meet halfway =)?

They didn't do a very good job selecting their images. That's the one with longer range. It has a class 1 radio. Think of it as one of those sweeping radar signals you see on submarines: as long as your Clie is within the range broadcast by the dongle, you should have coverage.

Thanks to all that answered. As it turns out I did a search on Belkin and located their distributors in Canada....and much to my shock I actually found a dongle just down the street from me. As I said above thanks for your opinions. Using the Belkin with the fin and all works well.

The Belkin fin is awesome at home. I will post tomorrow after a full day at the office on what type of range I can get out of it. I will give it the full test and post my results. So far I'm very impressed with it.

I've been messing around with the Belkin/Fin Dongle for quite some time. I've been able to pair the NZ90 with my WinXP machine, but thats it. Are you ppl using the drivers that came with the Belkin?

As for sending files from the computer to a NZ90 without doing a Hotsync> I can.
Bluetooth adapter> Belkin, the "shark fin"
has a program that will show you the USB device ( NZ90) you can open this device and then Open an Inbox and there you will see a business Card (v-Card) Once I see this I can Drag and drop files from my computer into this folder and they are transferred to my NZ90>
Once a file is transferred over> MyWorkBench asks me if I want to receive the files and it accepts the file into a Folder on the MS stick called My Received Files.
Once the file is on the MS I have to rename it using ClieFiles and move it to the correct Directory ( i.e. MP3's got to MSAudio)
This sounds like a lot of steps but it's not and it works rather well. I just wish I could send from my NZ90 to the PC via Bluetooth.
If you have any more questions just ask>> :-)

You can send *some* files from your NZ90 to your pc (or phone)...
It just depends on which files and the application you use, for instance you can send pics/movies from Clie Viewer by selecting Prefs>Data>Send and choosing Bluetooth, it should then find any device in range...
Does anyone know of a file manager that does this? McFiles etc.?
I'm still using the bundled Clie files and dont think its an option there....
Also, I am using a Blue Monkey 'pen like' class 2 bluetooth dongle just now to transfer file and share my net connection but not too happy with the range it provides.
Looking to upgrade to the 100m range sharkfin type, can anyone vouch for the 'Tecom' dongle? I've seen it reasonably priced on ebay for delivery to Scotland but not sure of the make.
Cheers

Actually, I just sent a photo from my NZ to a 3COM bluetooth PC by using McFile. It was no problem at all. McFile has an option for bluetooth in the pop up menu.

Now all I need to know is how to stop the 3COM software from asking for verification every time I send a file via Bluetooth.
I hit "send" and then a message pops up on the target machine saying, "will you accept a file from ... handheld?"
Nothing happens until the end user accepts it.
I want an option to shut that off for specific devices. I'd like to simply send a file and be done with it. It kind of defeats the purpose of wireless transfer if I have to walk across the room and hit "yes" for each file.
Anyone found the right option for 3COM or know of other Bluetooth software that works with 3COM and has this option?

i use the 10M belkin adapter. The only problem i have (having a mac i have very few) is that when i sleep my mac, the adapter light keeps blinking. i sleep in the same room as my mac and it ligts up the room. other than that i get true 10M -NO LINE OF SIGHT- range and the thing is situated next to my monitor (a 17" sony CRT).
the belkin is a good adapter. whoever said it wernt - get your head read.

You said you were using a Blue Monkey 'pen like' class 2 bluetooth dongle, but weren't too happy with the range. How bad is it ?
Thanks

Actually,
it doesn't matter which hardware you buy, the only importing thing is that your dongle support WIDCOM software...
there is a patch to use the actual WIDCOM driver (1.4.2.10 Hacked version), I can use my dongles to beam pictures etc. to my NZ90 & UX50...
