Last year I tested Insomnia (one of the first linux release for palm) and TP1 from Marex it worked well...

Here is the last TP version: But it seam to have a problem.

Palm LifeDrive: Technology preview 20070917 (Marex from Hack&Dev (http://hackndev.com/)): DOWNLOAD (http://releases.hackndev.com/TP2.tar.bz2) (Not working! Here's the explained bug: http://hackndev.com/node/11#comment-69) and wifi is not working...

There's also OpenMoko, but only on TX... http://zefanja.blogspot.com/2007/09/openmoko-20072-on-palm-tx.html

So I'm asking you if you know other way to have linux on LifeDrive... Would be nice :)

Also Saguaro seams to be the best way for our basic OS system (I mean PalmOS is very bad :() but there's no news from developpers: http://www.pdaperformance.com/blog/

Maybe you'll ask me why do I want to leave that way the Palm OS interface? Because it sucks!

get skinui for the interface

palmos is one of the best mobile OSs

Linux sucks for mobile devices since its too bloated for mobile use, and it as never optimized for power consumption - only for speed.

Saguaro, i do not even want to talk about

PalmOS has its limitations, but it's by far the best at what it does. It's designed around PIMs, and it's unsurpassed for that. Nothing else comes close. It was never designed for web browsing, and there are many better OSs for that. If you want something mainly for internet use, get an internet tablet. If you want a PDA, PalmOS is still the best there is.

As soon as someone gets a LD-bootable linux with garnet VM seamlessly available i'll be happy with my LD. As it is, i don't really use it. I've tried hacking all sorts of custom roms together, but i've yet to find a truly stable combination. I've lost my wifi / bt countless times due to running some program, the only solution being a hard reset.

Sadly if ACCESS ever do release their platform, i would very much doubt that Palm would allow it to run on their older devices - they want to sell devices and that's it.

I mean, i can't even connect to a file system share over samba and watch movies / music on TCPMP from my server. Even the single-tasking classic MacOS could do this (well, using AFP at any rate).

PalmOS is a nice thing to play with, but the lack of multitasking is a real pain for me, even my Symbian phone can do this - unfortunately this is the type of thing that make power PDA users buy windows mobile :(

A real shame as the LD is in many ways the best PDA i own. If only it had more physical RAM!

And linux can be scaled down; i used to run a dial-up router distro from a floppy! And my router runs linux in 4mb flash. And familiar linux with GPE was great on my ipaq (i hope Angstrom gets stable soon). I'd rather linux as if some company decides to stop supporting a device, the OSS crowd take over, and the device lasts far longer!
