Alan,
some comments:
- GSM Centro is available from Palm UK for 200 ... POUNDS ! That's a 50% difference with EUR ;)
- I personally believe that ad-campaign of Palm was a bad idea. If I were responsible for running business-critical processes, I rather trust a NOC then an own-supported solution, especially when there is a multitude of partners to be managed (your own network service provider, your own support team, your wireless carrier, ...).
Just a thought: How many exchange servers went down lately ? My guess is it happens from time to time but you hardly hear about it ... I know the impact of a NOC going down is a lot bigger so it gets more attention.
Not that I am saying I am a RIM fan (heck no !), just wanted to make clear a NOC should be better (but it costs a bit more  ).
- Linux vs Microsoft: it's a totally different business model so it is not that easy to compare.
Besides, there IS one single party controlling the core OS of linux. Linuxhq.com does that AFAIK. What the vendors like Redhat do is adding their flavor to it. But they can not touch the core without making those changes public (open source aspect of Linux).
Just my thoughts ;)

Loved your Linux rant.
Wanted to comment about Eee PC from Asus which i think began your Linux rant. A lot of people have installed Windows XP on their Eee. It runs really fast and is stable on the little 4gb SSD in the Eee. You can actually do a lot of the stuff you were going to be able to do on your loved and lost Foleo.
Bill Myers from bmyers.com posted a great 5 min video showing the Eee running windows on youtube ... i'm sure Hotsync would run fine on the Eee PC.
his video is worth checking out at:

I just did a link because i didn't know if embedding a youtube video would work here.

Alan, thanks for explaining your reasons to dislike Linux. For the time being the stock Xandros on the EEE does just fine by me. After all its a consumer linux device device, (just like most GPS receivers, set-top cable boxes, and wi-fi routers) and running enterprise database applications is not what this device is for. And what its designed to do, it does very well. Plus, you CAN put windows (or even mac os leopard) on it :)
RIM attack-wise, I did not think it was a big deal on Palm's side to take a little jab, especially during this primaries season, when much worse personal attacks are commonplace on todays media.

On the RIM attacks... When apple makes those blatant attacks at Microsoft , no one complains. I dont see why we should complain about Palm hitting at RIM. Its just competition. Thats the way of the corporate world.

I agree with freakmarket with regards to running Win XP on a ASUS EEE, I personally have just installed a "nlited" version of Windows XP on my ASUS EEE.
Installed Palm's PIM & Hotsync is a breeze on the EEE. I even have Avantgo, QuickNews & Worldmate conduit installed so that it could sync with the internet. I felt that it is a great substitute for the Foleo, as I am sure most existing PALM's third parties conduit ( like the above mentions ) may not work out of the box with the Foleo.
