Back when I had my N770C, I was able to connect to the net using the PEGA-MSB1 Bluetooth MemoryStick and a 3Com Bluetooth USB dongle, and the Mochasoft PPP program.
Since I've switched to the NX70V, although I was still able to hotsync through BlueTooth, I couldn't connect to the internet via Bluetooth anymore: Mochasoft PPP stayed stuck with a "connexion disabled" message and nothing happened. Meanwhile, I had replaced the 3Com Bluetooth adapter on my PC with a Billionton Bluetooth USB Adapter (smaller, cheaper, better software), but still no joy with Mochasoft PPP.
Today I decided to get things straight, and de-installed all the bluetooth stuff on my laptop to make a "clean" installation of the bluetooth drivers just in case...
My setup is:
PC: Fujitsu S5582 Laptop running (English) Win XP Home, with a Billionton USB Bluetooth dongle. BT driver version is 1.2.2.9 (couldn't find any update on their site).
Clié: NX70V/U with English MSB1 drivers from the Hong Kong site, and of course the PEGA-MSB1 Bluetooth MemoryStick.
First of all, make sure the Clié and the PC are "paired" via bluetooth.
On the Clié side, I created a "PC via Bluetooth" connexion as follow:
Name: PC via Bluetooth
Connect to: PC
Via: Bluetooth
Device: PatLap (this is the name I gave to my laptop in the BT software)
Details: Speed: 115200, Flow Ctl: automatic
and then created a network service as follow:
Service: Bluetooth Internet
Username : <left blank>
Password: <prompt> (i.e. not set)
Connexion: PC via Bluetooth
Details:
Connection type: PPP
Idle Timeout: Never
Query DNS: checked
IP address: 'automatic' checked
Script:
End (basically an empty script)
On the PC side, well, I spent quite some time playing with Mochasoft PPP without any success at all.
One time, though, I decided to leave the Bluetooth driver windows visible in the background while I was trying to connect the Clie, and I noticed that instead of receiving a "Bluetooth serial port" connexion type as I was expecting (and as was required by Mochasoft PPP), the "Network Access" connexion type was activated instead. I don't really understand the technical process involved here, but I decided to close Mochasoft PPP and give it another try, after enabling internet access sharing for the (Compuserve) dialup connexion which was my internet access at that moment.
Wahooo! It worked like a charm: the link was established on the Clie (instead of the usual PPP timeout error dialog) and I was quickly able to send & receive email using Clie Mail, and surf the net using NetFront.
The bottom line is: with XP internet sharing, no need to use Mochasoft PPP with a (virtual) bluetooth serial port, all you need is to enable the internet connexion sharing, if you have the appropriate profile (network access) amongst the various profiles installed by the Bluetooth drivers on the PC!
This seems an important thing to check when buying a Bluetooth USB dongle or PCMCIA card: make sure it includes a "nework access" profile.
Hope this can help... (BTW, I've not yet found a way to connect to the internet through the USB cradle... <IMG alt="" src="http://www.cliesource.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif" border=0>)
