Going to trade my NR in for an NX because of some problems with the unit. I've got the extended warrenty at Best Buy and they will let me upgrade even if I have to pitch a fit!
All that aside, I need some help in transfering the address and datebook files once I upgrade. Is it just a matter of taking the backup files "bak" from my old units software and putting them into the new 5.0 software? I know I have seen threads about the upgrading process, but cannot seem to locate them.

Yes, the only problem I encountered upgrading from my N760 to an NX70 were applications that weren't OS5 compatible. I had to manually delete them from the backup directory (having taken a safe copy) so the first hotsync didn't try to take them.
Datebook (in my case DB5) and address book details were no problem at all.

I just upgraded at Best Buy without any problem. The problems with my unit were minor but iriitating, the hinges and an eratic hard reset. Traded even.
Now the loading of programs took a lot more time than expected. Going out for new registration codes for Tiny Sheet, Acid Image and a couple of others. Downloading several versions of other programs.
Losing the use of most utilities and all the hacks and half the games.
Adding Okey and NX fonts to get the unit to work as well as it did with Thinfont.
Finally I still have unsolved problems, such as MobiPocket where the type runs past the end of the page, same thing with the new AvantGo where some articles, such as in Salon run past the end of the page.

I did the same thing you're going to do...also through Best Buy. The sales gal (kind of a Clie mentor for me then) beamed all my NR files to the NX. What didn't beam, the Palm desktop synced once I got home. It's been a while, but as I recall, I didn't lose a thing other than a bunch of sweat..... high pucker factor, needless to say!
