Just bought the king of the MP3 world, the new Apple iPod. The funny thing is that the TG-50 should be the king of the MP3 world. I owned both and the TG-50 sound quality blows the iPod out of the water. Now the only added incentive of owning this iPod is the hard drive space. I'll probably return it to BestBuy when the new clies come out.

yeah, I believe the TG50 accepts the MS Pro, and MS Pro includes 1Gb MS sticks. Better yet, invest in some ninja equipment, and some high tech glass cutters, become a world-renowned thief and steal yourself a crate of 1GB memory sticks for a lifetimes-worth of MP3 storage :D

Huh? surprise me that TG50 audio quality is better than iPod???
I never tried iPod, but I thought iPod is supposed to be the God of MP3, not only because of it's big drive but also its superb quality....

Actually, I just purchased the Nomad Jukebox Zen.

It's a little be larger than the ipod, but it's much cheaper - I got mine for $250 USD and I have 2,500 songs on it right now and it's only half full.
The sound quality IS - according to multiple reviewers - better than the ipod.
It has made me totally rethink the value of MP3 on my Clie - like now it's totally useless. I now have every album I own in the palm of my hand. I can play whatever I want in my car, on the plan, or in my office.
I no longer care about the MP3 features on a PDA because they can't compare to having your entire music collection with you at all times. After two weeks with this baby, I'm convinced this is the future of music.

I'm anxious to test this theory. I've had the 5G ipod since they came out, and just got a tg50.
I'm waiting for a MS to put some mp3's on, and I'll compare them using the ipods headphones.
Its hard to beat the battery or the 5 gigs on the ipod, but I find that I only carry the 'pod around for car trips, and I'll always have my 50 with me.
So perahps I'll invest in a 1G MS soon.

My 10GB second generation iPod has slightly better audio than my TG50. Also the TG is a pain in the *** to use (no dedicated playback buttons, VERY limited space, and relatively short battery life (1/6 of my pod at least)).

To compare a TG50 with an iPod is like comparing a BMW Z5 Jeep with a Porsche GT3 in race trim... The one is a allrounder, the other a very specialized race-track orientated vehicle...
Clie´s will never beat any MP3-Player, because a PDA with limited multimedia capabilities simply cannot beat a product designd especially for mp3/mp4/aac playback...
---and the 1GB Memory Stick gets filled very quickly when using 192 KBit/sec coding...

Now, if only sony's supported audible.. that's the only mp3 reason I'd like to use on any clie. I have my iPod for the music.. But for an audiobook, the clie would be perfect!

I also find that my Samsung YEPP MP3 player produce better audio quality than my TG50.
So I agree with alfa12.
And also what's missing in TG50 is an equalizer.

I have trouble believing that the iPod is worse than the TG50 (and I have both).

I also agree with alfa12. I have one of the original 5 GB iPods and a TG50. The TG50 can play MP3s and the iPod can hold your address book, but those are add-ons. The Clie is the best pda and the iPod is the best MP3 player.
My iPod plays music all day long and never repeats a song; while my Clie keeps me organized, entertained, and on time.

The iPod i had was the brand new third generation one. I compared the TG-50 with the first and second generation iPod and the iPod was better, but I was comparing the TG-50 to the new third generation iPod. I'm guessing that with the new iPod's small size it had to sacrifice a little more than just battery longevity. Perhaps there was the iPod I purchased was defective, but the TG-50 sound quality was HANDS DOWN, NO DOUBT, ABSOLUTELY BETTER than the new iPod. I listened to both 128kbps and 190kbps mp3's and the TG-50 flat out wins.

I agree. Till they make T665s with iPods pasted on them, I wouldn't use PDAs for MP3. Its just so so much better to have all your music with you all the time.
PDAs with hard drives? What do you guys say, a possibility? I'll prefer 6GB CF/SD cards or MS Pro, so much lighter that'd be!

That's all very well if you're willing to carry a back pack all the time. In the mean time I'm pretty happy with my TG50 providing occasional music or audiobook entertainment.
I have to carry my pda around most of the time anyway and I'm not one of those types with fulltime glued-in earplugs ;-)
I could see some use for a pocket sized storage device that you carry around to provide mass storage to other BT devices. Your small and light pda could access the datapod in your back pack for background storage. Convenient for cameras as wel...
