Can a 6.7 mm thick battery fit into the battery slot if the battery compartment is open?
My clie's in several pieces so I can't find out myself, and would very much appreciate it if someone could tell me.
Anything thicker than the OEM battery won't fit. For wider & longer one would need to dremmel the dividing walls. Someone went as far as removing the MS reader & permanently installed MS Duo. Just search around in this forum. Good luck

To explain, I'm trying to build a hotswap system that will fit in the ux battery compartment which can be replaced without opening the back of the ux. I'm having trouble finding any decent battery that will fit in the Ux compartment (The ux battery is apparently50 mm x 30 mm x 5mm) . Thus far I've found:
For the actual hotswap battery a FUJIFILM NP-30 Li-ion Rechargeable Battery (http://www.camera-battery.net/camera-battery-pack/FUJIFILM/NP-30.html)
It's 38.10 mm x 27.57 mm x 6.70 mm, bringing it a full 1.7mm larger than the original ux batteries. I'm pretty sure it will fit in the compartment itself, but I don't know if it will pass through the battery opening provided.
Can anyone help me find a similar sized battery if this one doesn't fit?
For holding memory in ux while battery is being changed:
A 25mm x 13mm x4mm mini battery, 70 mAh, and 3.7 v
More information about the battery (http://www.all-battery.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2137)
Just in case, I want to add either one or two of these:
Protection Circuit Board for 3.6V Li-ion and Li-polymer battery pack 29mm x 6mm x 2.85mm
Circuit Information (http://www.all-battery.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=549)
If I can fit only one, I want to wire it between the battery connector and the connection between two batteries. If two, I'd want to place them directly connected to each battery, with the out put wired together. This way, when one battery fully charges, it can cut off, while the other can continue with minimal danger of blowing anything

Only 70mAh ?

Only 70mAh ?
Only to last till you put in another battery, not to run off of.
I expect it'll get perhaps 2-3 minutes by itself.

Well, that won't do. I wanted to make something that wouldn't need to damage anything else, or remove, etc.
The idea was that if you have hotswap the actual mAh of the primary battery doesn't matter as much, since you can just swap it out when needed, without loosing ROM(purpose of that tiny battery).
I'm assuming the OEM battery is the 5 mm think battery? In that case I might have to go as low as 300 mAh...pretty useless...
Or is it possible to use other types of batteries? NiCd, or Li-Poly?

Dimension : 39.35 x 31.10 x 5.90 mm
740 mAh
Might fit?
Edit: Pretty sure it will since it's 5.90 mm and the battery to MS assembly wall is just over 5.9 mm, but this battery will only leave a mere 10 mm to fit back up battery and charging circuit.
Eventhough your UX is in pieces, you can easily measure the battery compartment, as the walls are in cast aluminum. As shown in the picture, below, you can NOT fit anything bigger unless you knock off the walls.
OEM battery size is 48x31x5mm. The actual space is 5.5mm thick. They use 0.5mm as room to cover the silver battery bag surface tolerances. You can fit a 5.5mm thick battery (assuming the width and length are not exceeding 31 and 48 mm, respectively), NOT by sliding the battery into the battery slot hole on the side of the UX, as you want it to do, but by opening the back plate, placing the battery on the battery compartment, and press the silver battery bag irregular surface against the back plate with the 4 star screws. You may still see a slight bulging of the back plate in the end, though. It will get worse as the battery gets old and swollen.
For thicker than 5.5mm, the only way to make room for it is to either to cut around the bottom plate (or the back plate), which is 1mm thick, or to cut around the top plate (or the base of the keyboard), which is 1mm thick. You can do the latter if you decide not to use the keyboard, of course. If you choose to cut the back plate, you may need to make another back plate that is bolted on to the original back plate.
Question to you is:
How would you connect the battery w/o removing the back plate?

By placing it in the way most camera manufacturers do. Open the battery slot, and slide the battery in until it comes into contact with the proper leads, then screw down the battery cover to hold the battery in place. When you open the cover a spring would push the battery out until you could pull it all the way out, and place a new battery in there.

For connections...perhaps spring connectors like Hippo did in his mod.
If I haven't mentioned it already, my idea for a changeable battery is based on Hippos mod to get a changeable 1000mAh internal.
To make it fit, Hippo had to remove the internal wall which separated the battery chamber and the MS slot assembly (Actually he did it in a previous mod to put 1200 mAh into a non changeable internal, but he would have needed to do it for this mod anyway). He also permanently modified the MS compartment to change it to a MS Duo slot, and used the leftover space to put in a second battery to power the Clie for the duration of battery change. However, I wanted to be able to put that second backup battery INSIDE the battery compartment so that I wouldn't have to destroy the Ux in anyway. In doing so I know I'm gong to have to go with a shorter and thinner battery, resulting in a lower mAh, but if that allowed me to swap, but I figure I'll survive.
If I really need more, I could try to find a battery that will fit in the height and width of the compartment, snap and adapter on the top, and plug it into the unit, allowing extra battery to stick out the end.
I remember reading Hippo's post. It is quite a project. Pressing 5.6mm thick battery into a 5.5mm compartment may work with a slight bow/bulge on your back plate. However, sliding a 5.6mm thick battery into a 5.5mm compartment, it's not going to happen. Good luck & have fun with your project!

Might be a success. I'll post pics in the morning if it worked.
(It's charging right now)
