I should be receiving my new T-665 tomorrow and giving my Wife my current T-615. If I maintain my current Clie user name will sync'ing my new Clie with my old Clie backup hurt my new Clie? I'm using Backup Buddy and am not anticipating any problems but I just want to be sure I don't overwrite any ROM files.
Along the same lines, is there a way to change my Clie name on the T-665 and restore my old T-615 files to it?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Mostly should work. If you wait a week I could tell you (I'm doing the same thing, T615 to wife, new T665 to me....)
I do know that if you use TealLock that one application will not install correctly. Over time I have learned to delete TealLock from my backup prior to reloading....(I have let the battery go down to far twice....)

Just stepped up to the T665 from a T615 yesterday and had no problems syncing. What a difference in the screen and sound especially. Seems to be faster but havn't used too many apps yet. Now I have to learn how to download MP3's........have fun with your new toy.

Thanks for the replies. At least I know that I don't have to worry about overwriting the ROM and shouldn't have any problems.

I suppose this might be considered anal by some but the following thoughts are offered:
1. Don't wipe the 615 till you know you got everything on the 665. I had an app once w/ a duplicate ID (I'm guessing here) and its documents didn't make the pass. But strangely the apps did.
2. There is at least one application out there that will change your name on the palm. IE if the user ID was SPAZ, you can use this program to change to SPAM and then backup again. This way - you can have both units syncable and if you mess up the 665, you have a set of files and folders you can copy from.
3. After you sync the 615 w/ the computer make a zip file of your directory. IE if your user name is ZAP, find the ZAP folder and make a zip file with everything (keep your folder hiearchy).
4. Send me some money. (to my real user name that I'm to lazy to type in a password with) Read my mind. Come on - work with me here.

Don't forget your dear wife! After you are assured of a successful transfer of everything from your T615 to the T665, if she plans to sync to the same computer you will have to use a name changing app or hard reset the T615 and assign it a new user name. Your datebook, memos, and address book will sync to both user names however. I seem to remember seeing a thread that I didn't read addressing how to maintain separate PIM data on one PC for two PDAs. Never had the need myself. Good luck! :)

All of your PIM information will not sync to two different user names. I have had 3 different PalmOS units syncing with Palm Desktop at one time before. It does a great job of keeping everything seperate. Just name the two units with two different names, and Palm Desktop will take care of the rest.

Interesting! Do you use Palm Desktop, Outlook, or what? I guess I experienced that because I use Outlook with only one user set up in Outlook.
does anyone know where to get the t665 for the best price?

I got mine at www.ecost.com for $269 including tax and shipping (which were free). The price shows at $299 until you put add the T665 into your shopping cart. I've heard that it's available at dell.com for $254 but I haven't verified that.
thanx so much. the dell cupon has expired so you can get it for 269, i think

I have my migration from a T615C to a T665C documented on my website. You can use an app called ChangeName (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=15540520020827092256&prodID=2456) to change the user name and ID on the T615C. The docs that come with ChangeName have some interesting notes on how the Desktop actually identifies a device/user.

which t665 color is better, the orange or the regular grey? Where is the best place to get the orange one, besides sony.

I personally prefer the standard silver.

I hear the orange one has a faster processor, longer battery life, a nicer screen, and can make a cup of coffee to boot!

Wouldn't that be a subjective question? Seems to me to be a matter of taste.
The orange case is a limited edition, by the way...Maybe it's available in the Sony store in NYC. I saw some in the window a few weeks ago when I went by there.
i ve got the standard silver one, i don't really like the orange one, but if they had the blue/red edition (i think it is for T615 asia version), i would have get it.
