I just ordered an Invisible Shield skin (http://www.shieldzone.com or half price if you go through http://www.zagg.com/showspecial) for my iPod and also ordered one for my Palm TX. There are several other companies selling what seems to be the same thing: Best Skins Ever (http://www.bestskinsever.com), iWrap (http://www.getiwrap.com) and Bodyguardz (http://www.bodyguardz.com).
I know these are very popular with the iPod crowd but I'm wondering how good they are for a Palm touchscreen. Ideally, I'd like to do away with a case or even the flip cover and just stick it in my pocket naked (the Palm, not me...) so as to be less bulky (I'd probably use some kind of generic pouch-type case for a little extra protection when throwing it into a bag).
Of the ones mentioned above, only Invisible Shield and Bodyguardz make a film pre-cut to the TX's dimensions. However, bodyguardz only uses the super-tough film for the TX's body and uses a different type of film (Screenguardz) for the screen. I read a review of the Screenguardz (I think at the Gadgeteer) and it didn't sound all that great -- she said she had to change it every month or so due to scratching from the stylus. BSE and iWrap offer a generic screen protector that can be cut to size.
In any case I got this rather discouraging e-mail from BSE:
Unfortunately due to the soft "rubbery" surface of the Skin material we often suggest against using the Skin on a device where a stylus will be used. The stylus can be difficult to use on this surface as it will tend to snag or dig into the soft surface. Palm Graffiti could be particularly cumbersome.
So anyone actually use one of these films on their touchscreen?
Also, I've read people suggest running the shower hot to generate steam in order to settle out dust in the air before applying a screen protector to avoid getting dust trapped underneath. Does this work? Do you apply the protector with the steam still going or turn off the steam and let it settle before applying the protector? I always have problems with dust...
Thanks!
