For the server side, for linux, you can work with VLC or ffmpeg to name a few

I'm running Linux and I know I have VLC. Don't know too much about ffmpeg though. I should be there as well.
Thanks.

You can set a web server on your computer. I did it with windows sii (or ssi ?) services, without any previous knowledge. Coreplayer was good at playing the videos. I think it takes less ressources than vlc.

IIS - Internet Information Server
Thanks for correcting, my hard disk crashed recently and I did not reinstall it. I did it for the fun but did not use it really, I do not play movies on my palm so often, only when I am in a waiting room with my children to make them quite...
The quality with a good wifi connection was good though, I could just play 75% of the DivX movies, without recoding them, this way. Actually IIS is avalilable theoritically only in XP pro, but you can see on google how to activate it on Home edition. I had to copy some files from a computer with pro edition though. I have read that an Apache server would be better, I guess it is the solution on Linux.
You can write a playlist which can be read on Coreplayer, so that yo do not have to type the whole file name in Coreplayer.
By the way, I did it on a TX, I do not know about UX.
