Hi,

talking about os 6 as we are...
Whats really the difference between os 4 and os 5

i mean i know the thing about security and wireless support and standard stuff
but in the day to day use apart from changing the processor what was changed?

I mean is there a folder supporting file system like modern computers?
did they fix the problem with tons of junk being left after you delete applications? (uninstall)

is there a new sync program - a new desktop program with new capabilities? i saw that PPCs are all the time synched unlike palms...

Other things?

(still awaiting my NX70 to arrive - tragedy!)

OS 5 is a nice evolutionary progression for OS 4, the main feature being the transition to the ARM type processor. That being said, I was thoroughly impressed with how well the feature set was incorporated into the NX when compared to the NR. It is definitely an evolutionary transition but it definitely is an improvement.

I think for the most part, there isn't any huge noticable changes that happened with OS5. It's mostly stuff "under the hood". Like you said, the new processor and security enhancements. But to the end user, only a few things have changed. One thing is built-in support for hi-res screens so stuff like icons and system bitmaps all look pretty.

I also remember hearing things about inbuilt security features in OS 5, but don't recall details. What are they? Are they accessible on our Clies?

I thought os 5 also let you mutitask, such as being able to play mp3's and surf the net? Am I wrong? ( i don't own a os 5 device so I can't verify this)

my old n710c did that - cause the machine had a seperate processor DSP thingy to do music - a breakthrough PDA indeed...

I currently own an NZ and before that I had an NR, and besides the multimedia improved capabilities (not related to the new OS) I can't see any significant change besides that a third of the applications I had before and not supported yet in the OS5.

If I had an option of having the same machine, but with OS4, I would probably had choose it.

The only reasons why I changed the NR for an NZ was the bluetooth and WIFI capabilities and the improved multimedia.

disadvantages of the NZ:
size
weak battery life ( specially when I shoot some pics).
OS5

BTW: on the NR I could listen to music while using another application due to the independent DSP.
