With the release of the Eee PC and now the MacBook Air, do you think that Palm was onto something with the Foleo? Well i think they may have been but shot themselves in the foot by making the Foleo too narrow in its focus.

I can't help but think that if Palm made the Foleo to be more of a Laptop than trying to reinvent the wheel by making it a mobile companion, they could have sold a bundle.

What i would have loved to have seen is a device running good old run of the mill Ubuntu, with a Palm OS emulator program so you could run all you favourite apps, along with the sychronising features and the GUI of the original Foleo for quick and easy use.

What do you guys think, has Palm missed the boat?

I think we all know the reason Palm could not sell the Foleo. It was ARM-based and it was underpowered. They did not anticipate that maybe people would use it for more than it could go or want to use it for more than specified. They treated a laptop as if it were a handheld which is a no-no. Most UMPCs are seem as computers with a smaller body. Palm made a very large PDA. That being the case, it would have been devastated once it was released. Now the macBook Air IMHO is a waste of money. It should have been the UMPC everyone wants in the Mac arena. 13" was done already. Its called the MacBook. 10" hasn't been done so why not do it. That's their problem. They probably got the motherboard down but the problem ended up being battery life as you can see, the battery takes up 50% of the macbook air.

Bingo.

Palm deleted almost every feature you can already get in that form factor, and then made the Foleo dependent on having a Treo for just about any useful feature left.
