Question for those who know the answer.

ShortCut5, such a great program on my Treo 700P, but I just discovered it's the major cause of my system lag. It took a long time to track the problem. I had it turned off in Palm Internals, so the resulting speed tests were showing only 943 in tics and 10 secs. But when I activated ShortCut5 for all apps, the time went way up to like 43 secs. This is killing Blazer. According to www.dslreports.com/mspeed without ShortCut5 I can pull 210-250, but with it, I'm only getting 70-100.

So, I need a new solution for my shortcut workaround (to this day I can't believe shortcut doesn't have its own key). Ideally, I'm hoping there's a ShortCut5 clone that'll do the job without the lag. Suggestions?

There are DA's like TeikeiDA and FreePadDA or WordListDA that will achieve your goal, but my favourite is pToolSet. pScripts are a fantastic of setting up macros to insert text and take control of your PDA.
Steep learning curve, but rewarding when you master it.

I know DAs. I've heard talk of TeikeiDA and WordListDA. Not sure what FreePadDA or TeikeiDA do. Looks like I'll have to do some looking.

edit with results:

Looked at FreePadDA and TeikeiDA. Seem versatile, but complicated. WordListDA seems a little closer to usuable, but still quite a few clicks from economical.

On a Treo, it's all about button pressing. 1. Activate DA 2. 5way to the word list 3. Select the wordlist 4. 5way to the right word 5. 5way to "copy" 6. Select "copy" 7. Menu 8. P

LOL, 8 clicks. ShortCut5 did it in 3 clicks ("." and 2 letters). Uhg.

I also looked at TextPlus (I think that's what's it's called), which is not free but does word completion. Sadly, it seems it sucks hede as well.

What else you know of???

It's still has some quirks on the Treos, but you could use DBLP to launch the DA. Alternatively, you could also use Petit Launch or MyKbd to launch it, might cut a few pen swipes out.

Pen swipes I wouldn't mind. I'm one of the few Treo users who actually would prefer the old Graffiti (the original). Loved the Kyocera 7135. Key clicking and pen tapping just don't mix well when typing, though.

I have Hi-Launcher and a custom DA launcher. I still have WordList installed, too. I like it, but it's just not a sub for ShortCut5.

SuperTrucker...are you the developer? Is WordList still being updated? If so, I'd be curious to see how it could evolve into a multi-clipboard app. I know there's already a few out there, but none of them can handle static text (like web pages or email). For some reason they can't copy it.

Anyway, has anyone tried an app called Texter? It seems to be a paid version of ShortCut5. Being from 05, though, and not updated, I'm guessing it'd be the same hede hog.

They do look complicated but are not really.
Put simply, it's just a matter of writing a Memo and then Teikei or FreePad will paste what you have written.

The only complicated part is knowing the codes, many of these codes are explained in the thread Clever Stuff DAs etc (forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=245644)
I put examples for you to copy then paste as the easy way to learn Teikei is through use.

All the best, woz of oz

what did you have to 'hack'? there is a download for patched graffiti 1 available, and graffiti anywhere just need to be copied over from any device that has the two files relevant to it (GAny creator id) without any modifications...
