For PC users there is the image converter that also converts videos... but for Mac Users there is a somewhat expensive software, the kinoma producer... or some other shareware... but the issue is always the same...
on the other hand, we do have the QuickTime player pro...( of course PC's also have but it works best on mac)... and , thus, the possibility of saving a video on the resolution we want or any ".formats" is greater...
now, here is my thread... exactily how I am supposed to save the file so that the movie player(built in) can read??? it doesn't recognizes the .mpg4 or .mpg2 formats.... so wich one should be saved upon???

not possible. There are many threads here on the topic, but no one appears to have mastered it. Sony is using a special type of MPEG4 that doesn't appear to be in QuickTime 6. Good luck.

Reading the existing topics might help more. ;)

MMm, just go here and buy Kinoma Producer (there is a trial version):
http://www.kinoma.com/products.html#producer
I mastered it in about 4 seconds!

But the trial version is very restricted to basic features....

Yes ??
Spend the $30. That's pretty cheap. Have you looked at what Media Clean Pro costs?
The demo was enough to convince me that it works very well.

Here's how i've found out how to convert movies for playing on my clie NX60.
If you have quicktime Pro and you export the movie in Video CD format. Then you can place it in the correct folder on you Memory Stick and Movie player should read it.
You must name the file in the correct format as well
It must be named as follows MOV*****.MPG Replace the * with numbers such as MOV00001.MPG
Heres the name of the folders it should be in:
Memory stick/DCIM/100MSDCF/your file
The 'DCIM' folder should be on the main part of the memory stick.
You can also rename the 100MSDCF to 101MSDCF and etc. Hope that helps if any questions just let me know.

I've got quicktime pro and when I choose the export optoin, I see many choices for the conversion, but I'm not sure which would be the Video CD format. jt53787, do you think you could help me out?

When in quicktime, go to Export (I think it's command E)
there should be a setting to export movie to (insert fav format here)
For me, it says Toast Video CD (since I have roxio toast)
I do a lot of video work and have cleaner and there's an export codec too for kinoma in quicktime. Too bad I couldn't even try it as my NR can't even hold any movies... I'm waiting to upgrade...

OK, VideoCD = MPEG1 a.k.a .mpg
QuickTime Pro is a much better value than Kinoma as it allows MUCH more than that one unimpressive format and makes QTPro features available in ANY app that supports QuickTime.
I'm FAIRLY certain QTPro does not have a VCD codec itself. I am definitely certain it does not directly support MPEG 1. When you install Toast, Toast adds a VCD (MPEG1) format as someone else noted.
HOWEVER, none of this will help you get the highly efficient "MoviePlayer format" (.HQV) which is the second supported format of MoviePlayer.

I agree w/jadisc, quicktime pro is great!! Comes with Final Cut Pro too so when I bought FCP, I was surprised to see registration for Quicktime Pro in there!!

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. For some reason I'm still having some trouble. I'm trying to convert the quicktime version of the Matrix Reloaded trailer. Using quicktime pro 6.2, I open the movie, choose the export command, and get the following choices:
Movie to...AVI, BMP, DV Stream, FLC, Hinted Movie, MPEG-4, Picture, QT Media Link, and Quicktime Movie.
Will any of these work? I don't see a Movie to Toast VCD option. Is there a way to make it work or will I need to buy a copy of Toast?

None of those options will work. You need Toast to get the VCD/MPEG option. Otherwise, bring it into VirtualPC and convert using ImageConverter, which gives you a much higher quality, smaller MQV file.

That bites. What does Toast cost - about $90? I do like the VPC alternative though. I do own that and will give it a try. Thanks again, fellas! I appreciate the help.

There's a freeware program at Versiontracker that looks like it does what you want. It claims to convert almost any video format into any other. It's called "ffMPEGX", and the URL is:

Image Converter crashes my Virtual PC most of the time. I'm using Windows 2000. The one time I did get it to work, the video was incredibly distorted on the Clie.
I've tried converting to Toast VCD, renamed it to MOV00001.MPG, and put it in the /DCIM/101MSDCF folder, but I it doesn't show up.
This is REALLY starting to piss me off. ALL I WANT TO DO IS WATCH SOME VIDEO ON MY CLIE!
Anybody have any foolproof ideas? Please?
thanks,
Ken

Bang on sony's front door? I dunno. I really wish they hadn't given us half assed movie players. I hope apple releases quicktime for Palm!
