View Full Version : Strange behaviour with ICS

Hi!

I've been experimenting and testing, but couldn't resolve a strange problem I have.

I'm using my NZ90 with the Wifi-CF Card in combination with an USB-Wifi-Dongle from Sitecom on my home Computer.
With Windows XP and the Internet Connection Sharing it's possible to surf the net with the NZ90 on this Computer in Ad-hoc mode. Everything's just fine. The NZ gets an IP automatically via the DHCP Service running on the Computer.

Then I tried exactly the same configuration on my Notebook: USB-Dongle, same Software configuration, namely ICS activated, Firewalls deactivated and using the same values in the config software for the USB dongle.
BUT, instead of working the same way, I can't get an IP automatically, so I always get a Time-Out error with my NZ90, when I try to connect with no static IP. If I put a static IP on the NZ, I obviously can't really surf the net, but can ping in both directions, so the connection is established. But getting no IP via DHCP means the Notebook doesn't work as a gateway.

It's very strange, cause it's the very same config on both computers. Also the same Services on both computers are uo and running.

Have anyone any good suggestions what else I could try? Strange Windows XP...

Hi!

So no one has similar problems. I however figured out a workaround. I must have plugged the USB-WLAN Dongle while booting. Plugging it in later causes the strange behaviour...

If you put a static IP address on, you must make sure its in the 192.168.0.x range and you also need to set the Primay DNS on the Clie to 192.168.0.1. IP address 192.168.0.1 is the address the BT adapter on the notebook gets when you activate ICS. The DNS requests will be forwarded by ICS to the DNS on the Primary LAN adapter. If that doesn't work then you probably haven't gotten ICS fully deployed (for instance because you have addresses in the 192.168.0.x range on the PC already) and you will have to enter the actual DNS addresses on the Clie.

Well, config with static IP on the Clie and ICS doesn`t work at all. I'm even not able to ping the 192.168.0.1 address.
A possible IP-address conflict isn't the point in my case. So, sorry, that doesn't help me at all.
Also my above described workoround doesn't seem to fix the prob all the time. I tend to think it's somehow a problem with ICS on the notebook at all...
F*** XP!

Palmzone has a nice bit on Internet sharing with Bluetooth (http://www.palmzone.net/bluetooth.htm). See the option 2 and skip the bit about creating a Connection.

BTW, I too got a timeout when I didn't enter 192.168.0.1 as the Primary DNS.
