Hey guys, i got an LD a couple of days ago, im having trouble setting it up with my gmail acount.

I went into settings on my gmail and enabled POP support.

I stuck in all the information that it asked me for (in versamail) and im sure i did it right.

when i tap the get button in versamail, i gives me the error message "timeout while accessing host "

Is there somthing i did wrong?

Any comments will be appreciated

This forum seems to be a bit slow; sometimes i think posting in the TX forum would be better :(

I've not used versamail; but i have a sneaky feeling that it can't support SSL-encrypted POP, which AFAIK Gmail uses. I don't know of any app that can do this; certainly no free ones.

Anyone else who is in the know about this feel free to correct me as necessary!

Hi!
Here is what I did on my TX to get it work, hope it works on the LD too, will write about it in several days, as soon as I reinstall it to my LD. :)

So, let's go from the beginning! :)

For mail service select US-Gmail,
Protocol POP

next

enter the following:
Username: recent:your_email@gmail.com (I wrote recent in order to leave the messages on server, it seemed the only way...
Password:

next

Email Address: your_email@gmail.com
Incoming Mail Server: pop.gmail.com
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com

next

advanced

Incoming Server Settings
Port: 995
Use Secure connection (SSL) should be selected

next

Outgoing Server Settings
Port number: 25
Both Use Secure connection (SSL) and Use authentification (ESMTP) should be selected
Now enter your username and password the same way as above:
Username: recent:your_email@gmail.com
Password:

done

ok

That should be it! :)
Please write whether it works! :)

It took me a lot of time to configure this, but in the end, I just took Thunderbird and copied the settings. Then I had a problem that as soon my Palm accessed gmail and downloaded the messages, they were immediately deleted from the gmail server, so I found this "hack" - just write recent: before your username and it should leave the messages on the server.
Just one more notice about that - In the Versamail preferences, limit it to downloading new messages only, since it will try to download anything that is stored in your gmail.
Hope this works for you! :)

Edit: Sorry for not replying before, the exams are beginning in my college, so I am a little bit busy right now... ;)
