hi guys,
well, what a start with my brand new TX (i was a long-time lifedrive user until it died recently). i just don't have time to trawl the threads for help on this one, so i would really appreciate any help you can give.

the big problems is: screen taps don't register after a reset! and here's the background to the situation...

TX fresh out of the box > went through install/setup process no probs > first hotsync throws up error (need to run destop docs-to-go setup and re-sync) > disregarded that until i got a few things beamed over from my m500 (address and stuff) > went through docs-to-go desktop setup as advised > did another hotsync > TX froze on hotsync screen.

so...hit the reset, but when the location/date/time page came up, tapping the DONE button did nothing, neither did any other keypress. tried the reset again and got same result. gave up and tried a FULL reset > hold/release power button and select UP. this time the first DONE button registered, BUT stylus tap on the target screen does not register!!!

i'm stuck. what now? is there a way to completely reset the TX (other than what i have already tried?). how do i bypass the target screen?

Have you removed that clear film on top of the screen? If you haven't, remove it and your problem should be solved.

thanks guys...
i applied some true jedi-like levels of patience and just kept resetting the device until it finally played ball again. did a fresh setup and hotsynced everything back on from backup. everything seems to be working perfectly, including docs-to-go :)

i've still got some more apps to add, but i'll be doing that slowly to make sure that none of them chuck a spanner in the works.

goodbye lifedrive - hello TX :)

Cant you use parts from the lifedrive like the screen and digitizer, (possibly battery) as replacement parts for you TX? :D

er...can't comment on digitizer (i'm not the most tech-savvy ;)), but yeah the screen is same size, so i'll keep the old lifedrive tucked away just incase it does come in handy. cheers :D

Stutorker: I bought a TX brand new about six months ago. At first I thought it was a third party software problem and did what you did with the same results until it worked. It repeated this problem and then would not register taps or drags on the screen after a hard reset again. I sent it back and ordered another one. The new one came in and had the brighter screen and none of the problems the first one had. I had bought mine through WalMart online and they took the defective one back with no fuss at all.

hmmm...now that you mention it, the display is a lot duller than my old lifedrive. i always kept the LD at minimum brightness, but on the TX that's uncomfortably dull...

thanks Reb2

well...my new TX has officially gone 'belly-up', so i just finished boxing it up and i'm waiting for courier pickup right now.

the unit was working great again after loading all the apps i wanted - decided to keep it kinda stripped down, so i still had 79% of internal RAM - in fact i was REALLY pleased with how it was running and found a new favourite app: DUH launcher (just what i had been looking for).

then without warning it started the old freeze-up>reset>freeze-up routine. resets & warm resets led to another hard reset to bring it back to standard issue...and now it is totally scr£wed up! battery charge seems to drop in an instant, then it freezes up and resets with a warning that 'battery power is to low to perform this function'.

...just hope my replacement turns out as good as yours Reb2 :)
